Ben wants Laura to reconsider staying overnight at Demon’s Grotto, and he has information about the club’s history that should convince her. He tells her three creepy love stories, hoping she will change her mind.

Rise of the Creature: When a mad doctor brings a dead man back to life, only his beautiful assistant can make that life worth living.

The Demon Within: A man on the run stops to rest at a rooming house, not knowing that it’s the hunting ground of a gorgeous succubus bent on devouring handsome guests.

Don’t Cry, Wolf: An ad for a maintenance man at a bed and breakfast is answered by a former soldier who’s harboring a hairy secret. The business’s lovely co-owner becomes involved with this sullen hunk who’s more than she imagined possible.

After hearing these stories of love and murder, will Laura decide to spend the night at Demon’s Grotto?

Despite the cold, misty night, Laura felt optimistic and excited, like she did whenever she was about to start a great story. Demon’s Grotto, the new club that had opened in a very old building, would be an amazing topic for an article. She’d already heard good things about the club. The name itself was an attention grabber, and the place seemed to deserve that dark, dangerous label.

She’d heard rumors that it was haunted. Staff and customers alike had seen, heard, and even felt a lot of strange things since the place opened. With her keen interest in the supernatural, Laura couldn’t wait to get to work. She didn’t think ghosts, demons, and werewolves were real, but she liked to fantasize and she also knew that many people liked to believe. In all her years of writing about paranormal creatures, she had never actually met one and doubted she ever would. Like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster, some things were meant only for entertainment. After all, you can’t find proof of something that doesn’t exist. Yet her job wasn’t to prove anything. She was just here to tell an enticing story.

Pausing outside the club, she gazed up at the old building that had once been a rich family’s mansion. The current owners had kept the old style, even through renovations. The ornate building was stained sable. The front door was black with red lettering that stated the club’s name and hours.

Laura was about to step inside when a man of average height wearing a wrinkled gray suit approached. He had thick black hair, a square jaw, and rich brown eyes that had an almost haunted expression.

“Hey,” he said. “You’re Laura, right?”

“Yeah. Do I know you?”

“You called the owner about coming here to write a story about the place.”

“Yes. Do you work here?”

“Sure. Yeah. When I heard you wanted to spend the night here to write your story, I knew I had to talk to you first.”

“Why? Do you mind if I take notes?”

“No. Go ahead.”

“What’s your name, by the way?”

“Ben.”

“And what do you do here, Ben?”

“I’m the maintenance guy.”

“Oh. So you must know all about the building.”

“More than I ever wanted to.”

“So why did you want to talk to me, Ben?”

“See that coffee shop across the street? Can we go there?”

“Why don’t we just go in the club?”

Ben’s dark eyes shifted toward the door. He shook his head. “No, Laura. I don’t feel like I can speak freely in there. If I’m going to tell you everything I know, it can’t be within those walls.” For the first time he truly nabbed her interest.

“Okay. Sure. We can go to the coffee shop,” she said, adjusting the strap of her laptop case more comfortably on her shoulder.

He headed to the coffee shop, and Laura followed. It had started raining harder, and when they stepped inside, they were both soaked. After ordering, they took their drinks to a table near the window.

From there, they had a clear view of Demon’s Grotto. A couple of people went in, and a few others came out. It seemed like a normal club. “That place has been bad news since the time it was built,” Ben said, breaking her thoughts.

“What do you mean?”

“It was built in the early 1800s by the Damp family. Frederick Damp brought his wife and four kids over from England. Within two years of moving into the house, three kids and his wife died. One son, Raymond, survived. He married and had twin girls. When they were sixteen, one twin went crazy and killed the other. She was committed to an asylum and died there a couple of years later.”

Laura curled her lip. “That’s terrible.”

“It doesn’t get any better. Before they were killed in a carriage accident, Raymond and his wife had another child, a son, Martin. He married, but poisoned his wife, and then he drank the same poison himself. They had one child, Cyril, and this is where the story really gets strange.”

Laura chuckled. “Stranger than that?”

Ben didn’t return her smile, but stared at her with those dark, haunted eyes. “Much stranger than that.”

Three men and the dragons they love confront their fears to find forever in each other’s arms…

Russian Blau: Ice dragon Blau Lepa seeks nothing more or less than to be a professor at SearchLight Academy. He’s wanted to teach his whole life, and considers it a sacred calling. When he meets Professor Rob Boyle, he’s instantly attracted, but they’re both convinced that teachers and students shouldn’t have sex, not to mention that Blau’s afraid to bond with a human who will pass away so quickly. Eventually Rob gives in to his attraction and finds being dominated by Blau fills him with soaring desires and heals his wounded heart. But is that enough to make him decide to throw away his humanity and accept magical powers so that he can spend all eternity with his lover?

American Telepath: James is a water dragon who fell in love with a human. Rather than expose that human to a dangerous magical world, James abandons Henry. When they meet again it’s like they were never separated. Except Henry refuses — beyond the occasional bang — to have anything to do with James. Together they struggle to overcome the past.

Chinese Morning: Travis longs to remain in the magical world which has given him so much pleasure. The only problem: he’s terrible at his job, and without his job he cannot stay. To distract himself, he seeks out the challenge of sexually dominating a dragon. As Chen falls for Travis’s mouth and hands and mind, he is forced to accept the truth: submission is where he’s meant to be. Will their attraction be enough to rescue them?

Excerpt from Russian Blau

Damn you, Charlie. Half werewolf, my ass. Rob felt his cheeks grow hot and tried not to glare at the door. Somehow he’d always known Charlie was something more than human. How else to explain his blocks-wide telepathy or his ability to hear many things he shouldn’t? How else could he have the ability to get around so smoothly without being able to see more than an inch in front of his nose?

Perhaps that last was unfair, but Rob wasn’t in the mood to be charitable. Charlie had interfered, all but throwing Blau and Rob at each other. How could he do such a thing? Granted, Blau was attractive. Blau was more; he was hot and cheeky, able to explain that the attraction wasn’t one-sided with only the lightest blush.

But that wasn’t the point!

Blau stammered, “I don’t — I don’t know chess.” He shifted some papers Rob just noticed, shuffling them a little and drawing them closer to his chest. “I can’t play anything but checkers and Go.”

One of the world’s most difficult games. Still, it wasn’t chess, and Rob was hard-pressed to keep the disappointment off his face.

Blau stammered again, “I-I’m sorry, but I have to grade these papers. I’ll uh, uh, see you later? And I won’t close my eyes in your class anymore.”

He rushed away.

Rob turned to watch him. He might have called the man back, except Charlie could hear everything going on outside the door to his classroom. Rob didn’t want him knowing any more than was strictly necessary about the couple he’d tried to set up.

So, unable to raise his voice, Rob simply watched Blau’s tight, jeans-clad ass until it was out of sight.

* * *

September in Washington, DC, was a miserable time to be hard, Blau reflected as he struggled toward his dorm room. Not that it would be much cooler there, but at least he could scratch anything and everything he wanted to.

But as he entered the courtyard before his dormitory, he saw the fountain splashing merrily in the insane sunshine. Blau started toward it, only noticing the KEEP OUT signs when he was a few feet from the glorious spray. Letting out a growl of frustration, he stopped short with his hands balled into fists. What sort of taunt was this? Water just meters away and no one allowed even near it?

Frustrated and itching worse than before, Blau decided to give up being human for a few minutes. In spite of the academy’s rules, he doubted anyone would object to a dragon taking his true form for only a little while. After all, there were hundreds of different creatures on this campus. Surely all of them didn’t keep their human guises all the time.

He took a few steps away from the fountain and changed into his eight-foot-tall, pale blue, scaly form. Hence the name Blau, which was the thought he had almost every time he changed.

As tall as the fountain now, he stretched his wings. Just this small amount of free movement felt so good. Blau arched his neck and groaned as his skin settled more comfortably around him, accommodating itself to his frame. He would have been tempted to blow fire for the sheer joy of it, but he didn’t dare violate SearchLight Academy’s rules more than he was already. Fire was a threat to most creatures.

“What are you doing?” demanded a voice below him.

Blau looked down, expecting a teacher or even campus security. Instead he saw James staring up at him with his hands on his hips and his head thrown back to take in Blau’s whole aspect.

“Just stretching and trying to cool off,” Blau answered, his voice issuing from his throat in a resonant boom. “What are you doing?”

“Watching you.” James laughed. And changed, assuming his own eight feet of height. Blue like Blau, he was much darker, an ocean blue that held a little gray in its depths. Then he walked to the fountain, set a single foot in the wide basin at the bottom, and kicked water at Blau.

Who loved it. Basking in the cool liquid’s magic touch, Blau said, “More.”

James kicked more water at him. And more.

“What are you doing?” This time the question was delivered in a shout.

Blau looked to the other side of the fountain and saw Professor Boyle — Rob, Charlie had called him — standing with three other teachers. All four looked livid.

James got out of the fountain. “Just cooling off, sir,” he said, his voice also booming and yet seeming smaller than Blau’s.

“Regain your human forms immediately.” That was Rob. He’d folded his arms across his chest and was glaring up at them, completely unafraid.

Blau liked him for that.

James returned to his human guise. He was naked.

Of course he is, Blau thought, and I’ll be too.

He took two-legged form beside James and tried to look unabashed as he met Rob’s gaze. Was it his imagination or did he see hunger in the depths of the man’s chocolate eyes?

Though I’ve already lost one mate, I can’t help but want Soledad Martinez for my own. Unfortunately, she proves to be as elusive as the jaguar sharing her consciousness. Every time I think I might get close to her, she slips through my fingers, laughing as she escapes me. Again and again. She’s maddening, beautiful, deadly, and the most intriguing female I’ve ever met.

When I finally catch her, I promise I will never let her go, even if I have to cage her. Yet she escapes me once more — and the fault is my own.  Worse, in my haste to make her mine, I’ve forgotten one very important thing.

The beings that seek to use the shifters for their own purposes are still out there. Still hunting. And they have my pirate.

Someone is going to die.

My new home was a gorgeous mixture of wood, stone, and glass. Massive windows faced the pastures, allowing light from the twin suns into a large great room. A stone fireplace took up one whole wall opposite the windows. The room was almost too large, but the earth-toned colors and heavy furniture made it seem comfortable and cozy.

Markon kissed my hand, holding it to his cheek for a moment before letting go. “Are you ready to go inside?” he asked.

The affectionate gesture made my heart pound. I didn’t know if I should reciprocate or ignore it. He was so confusing! I wasn’t sure which of his personas was real. Was he gentle and caring, or was he vindictive and cruel?

He didn’t allow me time to explore, instead leading me to an expansive kitchen with a large wooden table in the center of the room. My mother would have loved this kitchen, even though I doubted she would have recognized the equipment.

“I’m just going to do something replicated for lunch. If you’d like something fresh, I’ll have to call the cook in.”

“Replicated is fine.” I wasn’t very hungry, but he seemed intent on feeding me something, even though it had only been a few hours since our last meal. A few minutes later, the replicator chimed and I stood to help.

“Have a seat. I’ve got it.” He lifted two trays from the machine and brought them to the table. I inhaled the delicious scent of spicy beans and rice. It was comfort food for me, and I couldn’t imagine how he’d known that. I’d grown up on this meal.

“My mother used to make this for us. She would serve soup with it.” I sniffed back a tear, remembering how hard she’d worked to make a good life for us.

“What kind of soup?”

His soft voice encouraged me to let go of those memories. “Sometimes it was just hot water with dried peppers. If we could find game or fish, it was a celebration, and she would make the bones into stock. She would serve a formal meal with china and glass, and we would wear our best clothes…”

I smiled and shook my head as I spooned up the beans. It wasn’t the same, but it wasn’t bad. Just different. I hadn’t really considered that I’d have preferences for food. I’d always eaten what was put in front of me, whether it appealed or not. Even when I’d had a choice on the Athena, I hadn’t cared. Food in Mendaros had been fresh and most of the meals had been lovely, but they didn’t taste as good as this replicated spicy beans and rice.

When I’d finished my meal, he gave me a plate of something creamy and white with black berries scattered over the top. It smelled sweet, but a little tart at the same time.

“What is this?”

“It’s called cheesecake, I think. The science officer from Rakon’s battle cruiser made a study of historic Earth foods and I thought you might like it.” He scowled down at the food and added, “It was supposed to have something called strawberries on top, but we don’t have those. I hope the raka berries are good with it.”

I liked the tart, sweet berries so popular on Ximera. I cut a piece of the cheesecake and brought it to my lips. Rich, creamy goodness exploded over my tongue. By itself, the cheesecake was sublime in its simplicity. The raka berries made it transcendent. The fork fell from my hand as I moaned in pleasure and started to purr.

Markon smiled faintly and picked up my discarded fork. Cutting another bite, he put his free hand under my chin and held the food to my lips. “Open,” he whispered.

I obeyed his command, sucking every bit from the fork he’d placed in my mouth. Meu deus, the cheesecake thing was delicious. I’d never tasted anything so wonderful. I could smell the fat and sugar as it mingled with the tart berries. My mouth watered for another bite.

He stole a bite for himself instead of giving me another taste. Yet I wasn’t disappointed. He growled low as he sucked the fork clean and tossed it away. His eyes bored into me, and I shifted uncomfortably against the hard wood of the chair.

“I wasn’t finished.”

“Neither am I.” He swiped a finger through the creamy treat and held it to my lips. I sucked the digit into my mouth, swirling my tongue around his flesh to get every last morsel. The combination of him and the dessert made me wet, and I clenched my thighs together, my clit aching at the movement.

My jaguar started to purr and I couldn’t stop the low vibration escaping my lips. Markon’s eyes darkened and he hissed out a breath. I could smell his arousal. It was hot and sweet, better than the cheesecake we hadn’t finished, and it made me dizzy with need.

Standing, he held out a hand. “Come,” he ordered.

Excerpt from Rough Waters

The man performing pull-ups caught Samantha’s eye not only because he had a body like a heavyweight boxer, but because tattoos covered him from the top of his shaved head to the waist of his black workout pants. The artwork probably extended to his lower body too.

At the gym she normally didn’t gawk at other people but focused on her workout, yet this guy commanded attention. On her way to the free weights, she passed him and stared at the broad expanse of his sweat-slicked back. Her gaze focused on the tattoo of a ship at sea. His rippling muscles gave the illusion of waves rippling around the vessel.

Samantha paused, unable to look away from the waves moving up and down.

Up and down.

Up and…

The spray of salt water on her face roused Samantha from her stupor. Her heart pounding, she glanced around. Instead of the familiar sight of weights, treadmills and other gym equipment around her, she saw people — most in evening wear — mingling on the deck of a yacht.

Glancing down, she nearly gave a scream of shock to find her workout clothes had been replaced by a low-cut, sleeveless silver gown and matching strappy sandals.

“Are you all right?” asked a slightly raspy but sexy male voice. A hand gently touched her lower back.

“No, I don’t know what happened,” she said, turning and staring into the most beautiful blue eyes she’d ever seen. They gazed at her with concern and underlying strength. He had a chiseled yet masculine face topped with reddish blond hair cropped close to his head. A strange feeling swept her, but she blamed it on the sudden disappearance of the gym.

“What do you mean?” he asked. This time Samantha detected a slight English accent. Tall and lean, he wore snug jeans, and the sleeves of his tan shirt were rolled up, exposing his powerful forearms. The shirt was open almost to his navel, and she tried not to get distracted by the sight of his sculpted chest.

“I don’t know how I got here. I was at the gym and… I have no idea where I am.” Panic almost overtook her, but the man slid an arm around her and guided her away from the ship’s rail.

She probably should have pulled away, but at the moment she needed someone to take control. Truly she had never felt so confused and scared in her life.

“Did you have a lot to drink?” he asked.

“I don’t drink.”

“Are you here with someone or did John invite you?”

“John?”

“He owns the yacht.”

“I don’t know any John with a yacht,” Samantha said and allowed him to lead her below deck to a room decorated in red and black. People mingled, drinking, dancing and talking. A bar stood at the far corner of the room and to her right people lingered around a buffet table.

“What’s your name?” he asked.

“Samantha. And you?”

“Geoffrey.” He guided her onto a chair and stooped in front of her, gently tilting her head from one side to the other, his blue gaze fixed on her neck.

At that moment she collected herself — or started to.

“What are you doing?” she asked. “Where am I exactly?”

“We’re somewhere off the coast of Hawaii. You don’t remember anything?”

“Yeah. I told you, I was at the gym and –“

“There’s a doctor aboard. I’ll get him. Don’t move.”

He stood and walked away. Despite being dumbfounded, she noticed the curve of his tight ass in the jeans.

What was wrong with her? She had absolutely no recollection of arriving on this ship, of being invited, or of meeting anyone named John.

Moments later, Geoffrey returned with a shorter, dark-haired man dressed in black whom he introduced as Dr. Wayne Butler. He asked her a series of questions, such as her address and the date, which Samantha answered without difficulty.

“I’m not crazy,” she said, then her brow furrowed. Or was she? After all, she was here on this yacht but had no idea how she had arrived.

A third man approached, this one tall and pale with steel gray eyes. He wore a black suit and charcoal tie. His short black hair was perfectly styled, despite the cool ocean breeze.

“John, what can you tell us about Samantha?” asked the doctor.

Geoffrey stared hard at their host, whose handsome brow furrowed. He shook his head and said, “I’m sorry. I don’t believe we’ve met.”

“No. We haven’t,” Samantha said. She’d have remembered him. He had eyes like the villain in a suspense flick.

“She doesn’t remember how she got here,” Dr. Butler said. “I suggest letting her rest for a while and turning back to shore. She should be checked out at a hospital.”

John smiled. “Of course. Samantha, do you need help back to your room?”

“I don’t have a room,” she said.

“Don’t worry. We’ll find you one.” John offered her his arm.

“I’ll take her,” Geoffrey interrupted.

He and John locked gazes, and Samantha had the awful feeling they would come to blows then and there.

Sometimes life gives you something magical — if Drill can rescue a dragon that is.

The Old Tavern Club is a front for a shifter rescue organization. The BDSM club works well in keeping the owner’s true purpose secret, but when Pirou makes an unusual rescue, it might just be beyond the club’s purview. So he calls in Drill, the owner’s brother.

Drill has never even heard of a dragon shifter before, much less seen one, yet that’s exactly what the beast in the club’s basement looks like. As he works with the dragon, he finds all his instincts insisting that this is the sub he’s been looking for.

Can Drill and the dragon rescue a happy ending for themselves?

Drill headed into the Old Tavern Club, the subtle BDSM club that was the front for his brother Drongo’s shifter rescue operation. Having members who needed discretion and wouldn’t blab themselves if they saw weird things made the place legit and let them offer safe places for their rescues to stay. Only a handful of people who worked in the club knew what was really going on.

He smiled at the twink working the coat check tonight. He’d had that ass a time or two. Over his knee, around his cock. As a part of his cover as a club member, of course.

Heading for the bar, he smiled at Fargo. “Whiskey, neat. And tell Pirou I’m here, please.” Here as requested, summoned almost, although Pirou would never, ever admit to anything so… toppy.

“You got it. How’s life treating you, man?”

“Good. I’m building a third golf course on the far side of the city.” He made a good living with the golf courses, and the best part was that they practically ran themselves, giving him a lot of time for his true passion — helping with the shifters that made their way here.

It was Pirou who answered him, Fargo fading away to the other end of the bar. “Excellent. I’m glad to hear it.” There were heavy lines of worry on Pirou’s face and they looked totally out of place.

The slinky kitty worked hard, but Drill knew he loved his job, was happiest working at it, helping people.

Reaching out, he touched Pirou’s cheek. “So why did you call me down here?”

“I need help.” Pirou was usually far more loquacious than that.

“I figured that much out, sweet kitty. I’ll be needing more details.” In the end, though, he imagined he’d help Pirou, just because it was Pirou.

“Come walk with me?”

Oh, it must be bad. He picked up the whiskey Fargo had brought and downed it. “Okay, lead on.”

Pirou took his hand, fingers sliding on his, touching and playing.

He brought their hands to his mouth, kissing Pirou’s knuckles. “You’re buttering me up.”

“I’m worried. I’m in big trouble with the boss.”

He found that hard to believe, given that Pirou was the soul of the Old Tavern Club. “What did you do?”

“You know how, sometimes, I find an unusual rescue and bring it in even though it’s not our usual werewolf or werekitty?”

Something like constantly? Pirou was the softest touch on Earth and had contacts everywhere. Like he was almost scarily connected.

“I have heard you have a hobby, yes.” Drill teased gently. His brother often said that he had a theory that Pirou went out of his way looking for the hard cases, for the strange beasts.

“Well, I have one downstairs. He’s… special. Like for real. Like oh, my God.”

“They aren’t all special?” He wasn’t teasing anymore — it was an honest question. He could remember the lion Pirou had taken in, the poor thing so bedraggled and abused no one had thought he’d live. No one except Pirou, who had nursed the beast back to health. Then there’d been the zebra. Talk about high-strung. They weren’t really equipped to deal with equine shifters, didn’t have anyone qualified to help them. Pirou had made it happen.

“Yeah, but most of them are normal special. Not about-to-get-me-fired special.”

“Okay, okay, you did it — I’m intrigued now.” Because Drill couldn’t imagine anything that would make Drongo fire his beloved Pirou.

“He’s in the basement. He’s sedated. I’m scared to let him wake up.”

“You’re making him sound like a serial killer.”

“God, I hope not.” Pirou’s fervent words made him even more intrigued.

They headed past the kitchen, deep into the basement. It was clean, but… uncomfortable. Underground was far away from the air, from the sky and clouds.

Drill wrinkled his nose. “A vampire?”

“No. No, he’s… Here. It’s easier to just show you. I won’t open the door, in case he’s awake.”

Drill pressed his nose against the window in the door, but it was dark and he couldn’t see anything. Before he could complain, Pirou pressed a button and a light came on highlighting a shape draped over the mattress, which was the only furniture the room boasted.

Long tail, wings like a bat, pointed snout, sapphire-blue scales. Whoa.

“Pirou… That’s… he’s… a dragon.” Drill was stunned.

“Uh-huh.”

“Why is he here?” There had to be a reason the dragon was one of Pirou’s special projects and sedated. Hell, Drill hadn’t even known there was such a thing as a dragon shifter. No, he hadn’t even known there was such a thing as a dragon. They were a thing of legends.

“The slavers had him. My contact said that they hadn’t managed to get him to wake yet.”

“Slavers!” That made him growl. “So you don’t know if he’s even sane or not, let alone a shifter.”

“I don’t know anything except that he’s a dragon and he needs help,” Pirou admitted.

“And you want me to help him and find out as much as I can before you have to tell my brother what you’ve done.”

“Uh-huh. Please.”

“You’re lucky I like you, Pirou.” Drill went to the door. “I’m going in.”

When Michael has sex with a lusty hawk shifter, he thinks they’re mated for life. However Garrett isn’t one of Michael’s people, and he doesn’t understand the traditions — and very real consequences — that go with having a good time in bed.

Will their forced mating ruin their lustful desires, or feed the flames instead?

Michael stood in the doorway to the bedroom where the unmated wolves of the eros pack to which he belonged slept. An eros pack was different from a straight one. The latter was, traditionally, composed of straight wolves who were full citizens, and LGBTQ, psychic wolves who were not. Eros packs had originally been invented to establish a place where psychic werewolves could be equals.

Michael scowled down at the body. His mind was taken up with werewolf history — namely description of packs — because he didn’t want to think about the task ahead: finding the assassin. Outside, the second or third snow of January was falling, but in here it was hot and the heat boosted the stench of blood, shit, and urine.

The wolf lying on the floor hadn’t been killed here. The drag marks left in the carpet were all too evident. So, the question was: where had he been killed? And who had murdered him?

Michael found himself praying that the murderer was from outside the Rowan pack even though the placement of the body made that unlikely. If the culprit was from within the Rowan pack —

But Michael cut off the thought cleanly there. This wasn’t the Rowan eros pack any longer. Rowan Alec was just over six months dead. This pack had no leader besides Michael, Rowan Alec’s beta, and no name except “formerly known as the Rowan pack.”
The artist formerly known as Prince. In spite of the situation, Michael smiled. It wasn’t as if he’d liked the wolf who had died. A troublemaker and an upstart, Joseph had been a thorn in Michael’s side even when Rowan Alec still lived. Too submissive to be a serious threat to most of the dominant wolves, Joseph had always been starting fights with the wolves ahead of him and the ones just beneath him in the pecking order.

Well, now someone had ended his troublesome existence and Michael wasn’t sorry to see him gone. But death in the pack meant danger, and he would not see this pack — Alec’s pack — fall apart. And besides, he thought as he began to follow the drag trail toward the back of the Rowan pack’s large, single story house, someone deserved to pay for Joseph’s death.

The trail of blood and other bodily fluids led outside. Michael trudged, barefoot and uncaring, into the snow. About three dozen steps from the house, close to the fence at the back of the property, he found the killing ground. It was mashed snow and mud, blood and gore. Michael couldn’t fathom why those who had killed Joseph had bothered to move his body into the house. After all, this was just as good a place for a corpse as any.

Unless, he thought, they wanted me to find it when I came in to do my daily check on Henry. The most submissive of Michael’s wolves, Henry had been slipping away little by little over the past half a year. Spending as much time on four paws as on two feet, Henry had been fired from his job for missing too much work. He’d stopped bathing on a regular basis and there was an unhealthy dullness to his fur. Michael had taken it upon himself to check on Henry every day when getting home shortly after five, and he usually found the submissive in the bedroom shared by the five — well, now four — unmated wolves.

Actually, there were still five, Michael being the fifth. But he’d reluctantly taken over Rowan Alec’s bedroom. Not because he thought he deserved it but because it was the expected thing. Rowan Alec had been unmated, but as alpha it was his prerogative to have his own room. And since Michael had stepped into Rowan Alec’s place, it had made sense to take over his space as well.

Maybe —

“I love you.”

— unmated by choice. Michael was disturbed by the thought that his alpha had loved him. Maybe it shouldn’t bother him now that Rowan Alec was gone but it did. Not because Michael wasn’t attracted to male wolves; he was aroused by both genders. But because, frankly, Rowan Alec had been too dominant to be Michael’s type.

Forcing himself back to the present, Michael scented around the killing ground until he discovered the identities of the two wolves who had teamed up to kill Joseph. They were wolves in the Rowan — in Michael’s pack, and he sighed. He would have to deal with them. He needed to find out why they’d killed Joseph. They were just above him in the hierarchy. Surely no matter how offensive Joseph hadn’t deserved the ignoble fate of being set upon by two wolves more powerful than he. Any fight that had reached killing level should have been brought to Michael to settle.

I hope none of our neighbors saw the murder. Especially since Joseph was in human form when he was killed. Michael would have to call in professionals, SearchLight operatives, to clean up any loose ends, meaning humans who had seen too much. At least I know the right SearchLight agent to call.

Michael trudged back toward the house after considering the killing ground for another moment and deciding he’d have to ask the cleanup crew to take care of that as well. The only good thing was that the wolves who had killed Joseph weren’t in the house. Michael wouldn’t have to deal with them until they got home.

Assuming they come home. He sighed. That was a bit of food he wouldn’t chew until he had to.

He found himself wishing those specific wolves would do something stupid and force either SearchLight or Firos William, leader of all North American werewolves, to end their miserable existences. Just so I don’t have to kill two friends.

My story in this collection is called Bearly Caught, here is the blurb for you!

Blurb:

Daniella Holt needed to get away from a controlling ex that wouldn’t take no for an answer, she thought that a few weeks in Hillion Falls renovating her Aunt’s house before she could sell it would be just the ticket. But there’s something odd about the small community that she can’t quite put her finger on and the handsome town mayor she runs into is definitely a distraction that she doesn’t need.

Emmett Greyson is the pack Alpha of Hillion Falls and things usually come fairly easy for him. Until he meets the niece of one of his former pack members and she has his bear all tied up in knots. Unfortunately, Dani doesn’t seem to be like any other woman he’s met before, and if he thinks it’s going to be easy to get her attention or her trust—he’d better think again.

When Dani ends up hurt they’re all in for a surprise no one could have anticipated, but will the crazy changes happening in her life drive her back to the man she didn’t want, or will Emmett find a way to catch Dani’s skittish heart once and for all?

Golden: The Pride of Panthers 1

Golden_ThePrideofPanthers1_KindleCover

Trace da Costa is determined to unite the nomadic and unsocial panther shifters of the Americas in order to add their voice—as a pride—to that of the rest of the world’s shifters. Humans are aware shifters exist which has led to innumerable problems, especially threatening the survival of the solitary big cats.

His followers have already embraced the idea of mating and staying together to raise their cubs and when he finds his mate he must convince her of the rationale behind the change in tradition.

Aura Maas has no interest in males, aside from the occasional one night stand and even if Trace da Costa is her mate she isn’t willing to give up her lonely lifestyle, having become inured to it at an early age. She is well aware of the risks with no one to have her back and resistant to the idea of being responsible for another—especially a cub or two.

But she’s impossibly drawn to Trace and when danger strikes they make a formidable team. Not to mention how great the sex is. She agrees to commit for a month, against her better judgment because her cat has already accepted him and her human side is fighting a losing battle.

But there are other forces at work, from traditionalists to hunters and it’s only when she flees on instinct and Trace follows her that she accepts her fate. She is claimed by him—and him by her.

Excerpt:

“Where is she?” The tension in his voice betrayed his need.

Rock Gideon spoke from the side of his mouth. “Secured in the back room.”

His gut clenched as his entire body went on alert. “What do you mean, secured?”

“Tied, wrapped, and gagged. Secured. She should be waking up from the injection right about now.”

“You drugged and secured my mate.” A stupid man might have missed the dire warning in Trace’s tone. Rock was anything but.

Easing up on his elbows, the big male shook his hair from his eyes. Trace held his stare, their beasts close to the surface. The wolf broke first and dropped his gaze for an instant. “It took five of my pack to subdue her. Shade and Blaze are still recovering—in wolf form! It was a fucking bloodbath. Without the injection, you’d still be looking for her, and how I managed to administer that is a mystery.”

Despite the damage to Rock’s people, Trace couldn’t help but feel a frisson of arrogance and satisfaction. Aura Maas was worthy of him and his pride. Not that his loosely knit group of panthers were actually a pride, but they were still connected. And he required a mate to help bind them together before their kind faded into the mist. It was his lifelong ambition and one within his grasp.

He’d outlived his parents, and his sister… Well, he hadn’t given up hope for Ariana, not yet, but most everyone else had, and it was as if he was the last of his line. And so he was determined to build a larger family, both for safety and longevity of their species.

“I apologize for your trouble and offer my regards to your pack. I’ll also increase the prize money.”

With a huff, Rock turned back to his beer. His tone was admiring, if grudging. “Whoever tames that cat will have a lifetime of—”

Whatever the wolf thought Trace would have with Aura was clearly beyond his ability to describe. Trace hid a smug smile and said, “I’ll see her now.”

“Help yourself. Just keep between her and the fucking door once you cut her free.” Rock fished a key out of his shirt pocket. “New deadbolt. And the window is barred. We’ve kept … guests before.”

The information gave him pause but for a moment. Whomever Rock kept prisoner or in a way station wasn’t his business. The alpha wolf had a reputation of being on the up and up. Regardless, he didn’t have time to ponder. His mate awaited him.

Excerpt from Cat Class

“If I don’t let Godzilla out, I won’t have curtains. Again.” Hayden stepped outside the restaurant and jabbed the numbers on her phone to call her friend, Cole. She needed a ride home.

She clutched her pepper spray in one hand and her purse in the other. No way she’d let some creep-o terrorize her. “I’ve got to get to Godzilla,” she chanted as she waited for her friend to pick up the phone. “I never should’ve let that asshole take me out. Damn grabby hands.” Visions of shredded curtains and one pissed off black cat came to mind. But just like a dog or his monster namesake, if he didn’t have time to wander around the backyard, he destroyed things in her house.

“You never should’ve gone to lunch with him,” a voice said. “Not on Halloween.”

Hayden screamed and whipped around, her purse leading the way. If she was going down, she’d go down swinging. “Who the hell are you?”

The person who’d spoken stepped out of the shadows. “Chill.” He put both hands up. “I’m not armed.”

Hayden inched closer to get a better look at him. Dear God in Heaven, the man was naked and in front of a restaurant full of people. Her gaze roved down his lean torso to the thatch of black hair at the base of his cock. She swallowed hard. Naturally, the crazy man would be good looking. Her luck didn’t run any other way.

“Hayden, honey, I don’t want to hurt you.”

A shiver ran up her spine. Didn’t want to hurt her? How the fuck did he know her name? “Who are you?”

“Godzilla. It’s a stupid name for a cat. My brother would be named Godzilla. He likes to bite and scratch. Although, naming him Fang worked, too. Hildy thinks it’s funny to name us after things we do.” He shrugged. “I just destroyed that set of curtains by accident. I never meant to piss you off.” The man folded his arms. His black hair shimmered, and his eyes glowed the same shade of green as her cat’s. He even had the same odd way of staring at her as if he knew what she was thinking, and he talked like he knew all about her cat.

“Do you want my purse?” She stuck out her hands. “Take it.” The guy might remind her of her cat, but cat shifters were the stuff of legend. Besides, didn’t Halloween bring out the crazies? Yes, he was some lunatic in character trying to scare the shit out of her… and it was working. She shivered. “Take it.”

“I’m taking you home.” He swatted her hands down. “There’s a long story I need to tell you, but the short of it is, yes, I’m a shifter. I chose you as my human, and now I’d like to go home and explain where you won’t freak out.” He inched toward her. “I won’t hurt you, but I will rip the limbs off the asshole who dicked you over at lunch. Now let’s go. It’s freezing, and I’m not fond of showing my ass off in public.”

“No.” She held her ground. “I don’t know you from Adam and you want me to take you home? No way, buddy. Blow.”

“Now that’s just mean.” He scratched his brow. “Okay, look, I come from a long line of shifters. Black cat shifters. My litter had four. Hildy knew about us and protected us from a scientist who would like to use me for some crazy-ass experiment. Somehow she knew you needed me. I’m glad you took me home because I knew you were the one for me.” He stepped closer to her. “Hayden, I need your help. We aren’t legend, and some bad people know about me. You’ve got to help me.”

He crouched down before her and curled into a ball. His human form morphed into a cat. After a moment, the cat sat on his back legs and stared up at her. He even had the tiny white tuft on his chest — the same tiny white tuft like Godzilla had.

“Godzilla?” Hayden swayed on her feet. This wasn’t happening. Her cat was a cat, not a shifter. She collapsed on the nearest bench and rested her head in her hands.

A pair of bare feet strode over to her. She glanced at the legs connected to the feet. The man squatted down in front of her. The mystery man who claimed to be her cat. Tears blurred in her eyes. What else could she do? Laugh or cry?

“Hayden, honey, shifting destroys my clothes.” He tipped his head to look her in the eye. “Let’s go home. I’ll explain everything there. I’ll show you what I am.”
