Rise of the Creature: When a mad doctor brings a dead man back to life, only his beautiful assistant can make that life worth living.

The Demon Within: A man on the run stops to rest at a rooming house, not knowing that it’s the hunting ground of a gorgeous succubus bent on devouring handsome guests.

Don’t Cry, Wolf: An ad for a maintenance man at a bed and breakfast is answered by a former soldier who’s harboring a hairy secret. The business’s lovely co-owner becomes involved with this sullen hunk who’s more than she imagined possible.

Despite the cold, misty night, Laura felt optimistic and excited, like she did whenever she was about to start a great story. Demon’s Grotto, the new club that had opened in a very old building, would be an amazing topic for an article. She’d already heard good things about the club. The name itself was an attention grabber, and the place seemed to deserve that dark, dangerous label.

She’d heard rumors that it was haunted. Staff and customers alike had seen, heard, and even felt a lot of strange things since the place opened. With her keen interest in the supernatural, Laura couldn’t wait to get to work. She didn’t think ghosts, demons, and werewolves were real, but she liked to fantasize and she also knew that many people liked to believe. In all her years of writing about paranormal creatures, she had never actually met one and doubted she ever would. Like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster, some things were meant only for entertainment. After all, you can’t find proof of something that doesn’t exist. Yet her job wasn’t to prove anything. She was just here to tell an enticing story.

Pausing outside the club, she gazed up at the old building that had once been a rich family’s mansion. The current owners had kept the old style, even through renovations. The ornate building was stained sable. The front door was black with red lettering that stated the club’s name and hours.

Laura was about to step inside when a man of average height wearing a wrinkled gray suit approached. He had thick black hair, a square jaw, and rich brown eyes that had an almost haunted expression.

“Hey,” he said. “You’re Laura, right?”

“Yeah. Do I know you?”

“You called the owner about coming here to write a story about the place.”

“Yes. Do you work here?”

“Sure. Yeah. When I heard you wanted to spend the night here to write your story, I knew I had to talk to you first.”

“Why? Do you mind if I take notes?”

“No. Go ahead.”

“What’s your name, by the way?”

“Ben.”

“And what do you do here, Ben?”

“I’m the maintenance guy.”

“Oh. So you must know all about the building.”

“More than I ever wanted to.”

“So why did you want to talk to me, Ben?”

“See that coffee shop across the street? Can we go there?”

“Why don’t we just go in the club?”

Ben’s dark eyes shifted toward the door. He shook his head. “No, Laura. I don’t feel like I can speak freely in there. If I’m going to tell you everything I know, it can’t be within those walls.” For the first time he truly nabbed her interest.

“Okay. Sure. We can go to the coffee shop,” she said, adjusting the strap of her laptop case more comfortably on her shoulder.

He headed to the coffee shop, and Laura followed. It had started raining harder, and when they stepped inside, they were both soaked. After ordering, they took their drinks to a table near the window.

From there, they had a clear view of Demon’s Grotto. A couple of people went in, and a few others came out. It seemed like a normal club. “That place has been bad news since the time it was built,” Ben said, breaking her thoughts.

“What do you mean?”

“It was built in the early 1800s by the Damp family. Frederick Damp brought his wife and four kids over from England. Within two years of moving into the house, three kids and his wife died. One son, Raymond, survived. He married and had twin girls. When they were sixteen, one twin went crazy and killed the other. She was committed to an asylum and died there a couple of years later.”

Laura curled her lip. “That’s terrible.”

“It doesn’t get any better. Before they were killed in a carriage accident, Raymond and his wife had another child, a son, Martin. He married, but poisoned his wife, and then he drank the same poison himself. They had one child, Cyril, and this is where the story really gets strange.”

Laura chuckled. “Stranger than that?”

Ben didn’t return her smile, but stared at her with those dark, haunted eyes. “Much stranger than that.”

Lucas has just returned from a most unsatisfying vacation to find his department at the Wit and Wizardry Brewery in a shambles. Of troll ancestry, Lucas is a man of appalling disposition and astounding accounting skills. Determined to set everything in order as soon as possible, he refuses to leave the office at closing time, even thought it means missing out on St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Lucas finds he’s not the only one working late. Cait, the newly hired head of marketing for the brewery, is there as well. Her overly-cheerful manner drives Lucas crazy. The last thing he needs is an optimistic, chatty, adorable pixie distracting him at work, but she can’t seem to understand that he wants to be left alone.

What neither realize is that earlier that evening, Lucas had washed down his dinner with a magical beer that will guide him toward his true love. The abominable accountant and the merry marketing manager are about to prove that opposites do attract and St. Patrick’s Day really is the best day to fall in love.

“Well, try to be nice to her,” Dillon said.

“Nice isn’t in my nature.”

“I hadn’t noticed. Believe me, Lucas, the only reason you’re working here is because you’re great at your job and because you don’t have to work directly with paying customers.”

“One thing I’ve always liked about you, Dillon. You’re honest.”

Dillon grinned and shook his head. “The second thing I wanted to say is you don’t have to stay late tonight. You have plenty of time to set things in order during working hours. What’s the point of taking a vacation if you’re stressed again by the end of your first day back? It’s St. Patrick’s Day. After work, my brothers and I are going to the pub to hang out with friends. Why don’t you come along?”

“Your brothers hate me and so do your friends.”

“They don’t hate you.”

“And I’m not too fond of them, either.”

“You’ll be doing me a favor if you come. Truth be told, I don’t feel like celebrating anything so soon after…”

Dillon paused and Lucas shook his head. Dillon’s girlfriend had left him recently and despite his grinning exterior, he still hadn’t gotten over it.

“You need to put that woman out of your mind entirely,” Lucas said. “Tell you what, instead of going to the pub, maybe you should work late, too. I find that if I immerse myself in –“

“Forget it. I’ve worked enough late nights and early mornings. I need to relax. If you change your mind about joining us –“

“No thank you, Dillon. I’m not leaving this office until it’s back in order. Pixie slurs aside, I ask again, who looked after this department and left such a mess?”

“That would be me. Your employer.” Dillon grinned and winked before he turned and left Lucas muttering over his paperwork.

Bleu Davis often wondered if destiny had brought him and Grey Davies together.

Although they were polar opposites, Bleu and Grey became best friends. Propinquity, their parents decided, the tendency for people to form friendships with those whom they encounter often. After all, they lived on the same street and their mothers became pregnant at the same time. The boys were born on the same day and both were named for the color of their eyes. The two families became inseparable. Play dates were arranged and often the families traveled together.

Grey and Bleu’s birthdays and surnames insured that they attended the same classes from kindergarten through middle school. In high school, they started drifting apart. Grey developed into a talented athlete, good in every sport. He was intelligent as well, but preferred to spend his time partying or playing sports. He relied on Bleu, the unathletic scholar, to help him keep his grades up. Grey took advantage of Bleu’s kind nature in other ways as well, repeatedly asking for favors, without returning them or showing gratitude.

Grey’s ego grew as big as the Keystone State. Sometimes he was obnoxiously arrogant, demanding what he wanted and pointing out Bleu’s flaws when Bleu couldn’t deliver. Bleu accepted this treatment, just as he accepted his place as sidekick to the more popular and charismatic Grey.

Bleu knew he was being taken for granted, but he never refused Grey. He felt Grey was destined to be an important person and his needs were more important than Bleu’s. But the real reason was harder to face.

Bleu had feelings for Grey, but he’d been suppressing them for a long time. He couldn’t accept the fact that he might be gay. After all, he dated girls, and had even kissed a few. The kisses were mechanical. “I just haven’t found the right one yet,” Bleu told himself.

But the person Bleu thought about when he masturbated was Grey. He’d imagine himself kissing and touching his friend until he got an erection. It didn’t take long. Then he’d stroke and tug until he came. It felt good, but it didn’t make him happy, because he knew Grey would be disgusted. He always promised himself he wouldn’t do it again, but it didn’t change anything, because what he really wanted, what he really needed, was Grey.

Then one night they were studying in Grey’s bedroom and Bleu almost revealed his secret.

Grey pushed the chair back from his desk and stood. He stretched and grabbed his crotch. “Fuck, I’m horny.”

Bleu was lying on Grey’s bed, his head propped up on two pillows. Programmed to echo Grey, he muttered, “Yeah, me too.” But he kept his eyes on his book.

Grey grabbed Bleu’s book and tossed it aside. “Great. Let’s jerk off.”

Bleu was shaken to the core. He made a grab for his book. “Stop messing around. I have finals tomorrow.”

“And trust me, you’ll concentrate much better after you come.”

Bleu’s face heated. “That’s private. Something I do at home alone.”

“But it’s more fun doing it with somebody.” Grey gave him a sly look. “All the guys whack off together. It doesn’t mean they’re gay.” He paused, waiting for a response.

Bleu feigned disinterest. “I’m not in the mood.”

“I’ll get you in the mood.”

Grey pulled off his jeans and then climbed onto Bleu and straddled his hips. He unzipped Bleu and had his cock in his hand in less than five seconds. “See, you’re hard already.”

Part of Bleu wanted Grey to stop, but the other part wanted this to go on forever. He made a halfhearted attempt to shove Grey off. “Stop playing.”

Grey tugged on Bleu’s cock. “You like this, don’t you?”

How could Bleu deny it? His dick was throbbing and he was already leaking precum.

Grey rubbed the pearly drops of fluid over the head of Bleu’s cock and down the shaft. He fisted Bleu’s cock and slowly stroked the length. A whimper escaped Bleu’s throat and his hips arched.

“Nice.” Grey murmured. “Now you touch my dick the way you would touch yours.”

Three men and the dragons they love confront their fears to find forever in each other’s arms…

Russian Blau: Ice dragon Blau Lepa seeks nothing more or less than to be a professor at SearchLight Academy. He’s wanted to teach his whole life, and considers it a sacred calling. When he meets Professor Rob Boyle, he’s instantly attracted, but they’re both convinced that teachers and students shouldn’t have sex, not to mention that Blau’s afraid to bond with a human who will pass away so quickly. Eventually Rob gives in to his attraction and finds being dominated by Blau fills him with soaring desires and heals his wounded heart. But is that enough to make him decide to throw away his humanity and accept magical powers so that he can spend all eternity with his lover?

American Telepath: James is a water dragon who fell in love with a human. Rather than expose that human to a dangerous magical world, James abandons Henry. When they meet again it’s like they were never separated. Except Henry refuses — beyond the occasional bang — to have anything to do with James. Together they struggle to overcome the past.

Chinese Morning: Travis longs to remain in the magical world which has given him so much pleasure. The only problem: he’s terrible at his job, and without his job he cannot stay. To distract himself, he seeks out the challenge of sexually dominating a dragon. As Chen falls for Travis’s mouth and hands and mind, he is forced to accept the truth: submission is where he’s meant to be. Will their attraction be enough to rescue them?

Excerpt from Russian Blau

Damn you, Charlie. Half werewolf, my ass. Rob felt his cheeks grow hot and tried not to glare at the door. Somehow he’d always known Charlie was something more than human. How else to explain his blocks-wide telepathy or his ability to hear many things he shouldn’t? How else could he have the ability to get around so smoothly without being able to see more than an inch in front of his nose?

Perhaps that last was unfair, but Rob wasn’t in the mood to be charitable. Charlie had interfered, all but throwing Blau and Rob at each other. How could he do such a thing? Granted, Blau was attractive. Blau was more; he was hot and cheeky, able to explain that the attraction wasn’t one-sided with only the lightest blush.

But that wasn’t the point!

Blau stammered, “I don’t — I don’t know chess.” He shifted some papers Rob just noticed, shuffling them a little and drawing them closer to his chest. “I can’t play anything but checkers and Go.”

One of the world’s most difficult games. Still, it wasn’t chess, and Rob was hard-pressed to keep the disappointment off his face.

Blau stammered again, “I-I’m sorry, but I have to grade these papers. I’ll uh, uh, see you later? And I won’t close my eyes in your class anymore.”

He rushed away.

Rob turned to watch him. He might have called the man back, except Charlie could hear everything going on outside the door to his classroom. Rob didn’t want him knowing any more than was strictly necessary about the couple he’d tried to set up.

So, unable to raise his voice, Rob simply watched Blau’s tight, jeans-clad ass until it was out of sight.

* * *

September in Washington, DC, was a miserable time to be hard, Blau reflected as he struggled toward his dorm room. Not that it would be much cooler there, but at least he could scratch anything and everything he wanted to.

But as he entered the courtyard before his dormitory, he saw the fountain splashing merrily in the insane sunshine. Blau started toward it, only noticing the KEEP OUT signs when he was a few feet from the glorious spray. Letting out a growl of frustration, he stopped short with his hands balled into fists. What sort of taunt was this? Water just meters away and no one allowed even near it?

Frustrated and itching worse than before, Blau decided to give up being human for a few minutes. In spite of the academy’s rules, he doubted anyone would object to a dragon taking his true form for only a little while. After all, there were hundreds of different creatures on this campus. Surely all of them didn’t keep their human guises all the time.

He took a few steps away from the fountain and changed into his eight-foot-tall, pale blue, scaly form. Hence the name Blau, which was the thought he had almost every time he changed.

As tall as the fountain now, he stretched his wings. Just this small amount of free movement felt so good. Blau arched his neck and groaned as his skin settled more comfortably around him, accommodating itself to his frame. He would have been tempted to blow fire for the sheer joy of it, but he didn’t dare violate SearchLight Academy’s rules more than he was already. Fire was a threat to most creatures.

“What are you doing?” demanded a voice below him.

Blau looked down, expecting a teacher or even campus security. Instead he saw James staring up at him with his hands on his hips and his head thrown back to take in Blau’s whole aspect.

“Just stretching and trying to cool off,” Blau answered, his voice issuing from his throat in a resonant boom. “What are you doing?”

“Watching you.” James laughed. And changed, assuming his own eight feet of height. Blue like Blau, he was much darker, an ocean blue that held a little gray in its depths. Then he walked to the fountain, set a single foot in the wide basin at the bottom, and kicked water at Blau.

Who loved it. Basking in the cool liquid’s magic touch, Blau said, “More.”

James kicked more water at him. And more.

“What are you doing?” This time the question was delivered in a shout.

Blau looked to the other side of the fountain and saw Professor Boyle — Rob, Charlie had called him — standing with three other teachers. All four looked livid.

James got out of the fountain. “Just cooling off, sir,” he said, his voice also booming and yet seeming smaller than Blau’s.

“Regain your human forms immediately.” That was Rob. He’d folded his arms across his chest and was glaring up at them, completely unafraid.

Blau liked him for that.

James returned to his human guise. He was naked.

Of course he is, Blau thought, and I’ll be too.

He took two-legged form beside James and tried to look unabashed as he met Rob’s gaze. Was it his imagination or did he see hunger in the depths of the man’s chocolate eyes?

She’s maddening, beautiful, deadly, and the most intriguing female I’ve ever met.

My new home was a gorgeous mixture of wood, stone, and glass. Massive windows faced the pastures, allowing light from the twin suns into a large great room. A stone fireplace took up one whole wall opposite the windows. The room was almost too large, but the earth-toned colors and heavy furniture made it seem comfortable and cozy.

Markon kissed my hand, holding it to his cheek for a moment before letting go. “Are you ready to go inside?” he asked.

The affectionate gesture made my heart pound. I didn’t know if I should reciprocate or ignore it. He was so confusing! I wasn’t sure which of his personas was real. Was he gentle and caring, or was he vindictive and cruel?

He didn’t allow me time to explore, instead leading me to an expansive kitchen with a large wooden table in the center of the room. My mother would have loved this kitchen, even though I doubted she would have recognized the equipment.

“I’m just going to do something replicated for lunch. If you’d like something fresh, I’ll have to call the cook in.”

“Replicated is fine.” I wasn’t very hungry, but he seemed intent on feeding me something, even though it had only been a few hours since our last meal. A few minutes later, the replicator chimed and I stood to help.

“Have a seat. I’ve got it.” He lifted two trays from the machine and brought them to the table. I inhaled the delicious scent of spicy beans and rice. It was comfort food for me, and I couldn’t imagine how he’d known that. I’d grown up on this meal.

“My mother used to make this for us. She would serve soup with it.” I sniffed back a tear, remembering how hard she’d worked to make a good life for us.

“What kind of soup?”

His soft voice encouraged me to let go of those memories. “Sometimes it was just hot water with dried peppers. If we could find game or fish, it was a celebration, and she would make the bones into stock. She would serve a formal meal with china and glass, and we would wear our best clothes…”

I smiled and shook my head as I spooned up the beans. It wasn’t the same, but it wasn’t bad. Just different. I hadn’t really considered that I’d have preferences for food. I’d always eaten what was put in front of me, whether it appealed or not. Even when I’d had a choice on the Athena, I hadn’t cared. Food in Mendaros had been fresh and most of the meals had been lovely, but they didn’t taste as good as this replicated spicy beans and rice.

When I’d finished my meal, he gave me a plate of something creamy and white with black berries scattered over the top. It smelled sweet, but a little tart at the same time.

“What is this?”

“It’s called cheesecake, I think. The science officer from Rakon’s battle cruiser made a study of historic Earth foods and I thought you might like it.” He scowled down at the food and added, “It was supposed to have something called strawberries on top, but we don’t have those. I hope the raka berries are good with it.”

I liked the tart, sweet berries so popular on Ximera. I cut a piece of the cheesecake and brought it to my lips. Rich, creamy goodness exploded over my tongue. By itself, the cheesecake was sublime in its simplicity. The raka berries made it transcendent. The fork fell from my hand as I moaned in pleasure and started to purr.

Markon smiled faintly and picked up my discarded fork. Cutting another bite, he put his free hand under my chin and held the food to my lips. “Open,” he whispered.

I obeyed his command, sucking every bit from the fork he’d placed in my mouth. Meu deus, the cheesecake thing was delicious. I’d never tasted anything so wonderful. I could smell the fat and sugar as it mingled with the tart berries. My mouth watered for another bite.

He stole a bite for himself instead of giving me another taste. Yet I wasn’t disappointed. He growled low as he sucked the fork clean and tossed it away. His eyes bored into me, and I shifted uncomfortably against the hard wood of the chair.

“I wasn’t finished.”

“Neither am I.” He swiped a finger through the creamy treat and held it to my lips. I sucked the digit into my mouth, swirling my tongue around his flesh to get every last morsel. The combination of him and the dessert made me wet, and I clenched my thighs together, my clit aching at the movement.

My jaguar started to purr and I couldn’t stop the low vibration escaping my lips. Markon’s eyes darkened and he hissed out a breath. I could smell his arousal. It was hot and sweet, better than the cheesecake we hadn’t finished, and it made me dizzy with need.

Standing, he held out a hand. “Come,” he ordered.

By the time I made it back to the club it was almost dark. My heart leapt with a quick, painful thump of panic. I took the stairs two at a time. My brow furrowed, but I tried to keep my face neutral. I didn’t want my brothers to think I didn’t trust them with my kid, but I didn’t.

I shouldn’t have rushed off after Brandy, or whoever she really was. I should have focused on the baby. Worry gnawed in my belly when I opened the door and saw Rooster sitting at a table pouring himself shots.

“Where’s the kid?” I’d failed not to sound enraged. The old guy had promised me he’d look after her.

Rooster chuckled. “Don’t worry. The baby’s in good hands. She’s with Youngster’s sister. Best damn lady I can think of to watch over the little thing.”

I tried to remember Youngster having a sister. The memory of the angelic blonde mourning her father came to mind. “Blonde and pretty? Right?”

“Sure is, not as blonde these days, but a looker. She was Cat Man’s only daughter and he protected her. No one disrespected her. When her daddy got shot, I promised him I’d look out for her and I’ve been keeping tabs on her all these years. When I say you should trust her — trust her.”

I nodded. “Okay, but the mother skipped town. What do I do now?”

“Baby Girl’s got a job and needs you to pick up the kid, so pick up your kid. After that, it’s up to you. Just take the kid to a hospital or something and tell them the mother dumped her here. Lie, say the father isn’t in our club and none of us know where to find him. They’ll get the kid somewhere safe.”

I shuddered. Somewhere safe was not always somewhere a kid would want to grow up. Maybe things had changed, and a nice family waited to give the baby love, but the possibility of what I’d gone through happening to the baby gave me pause. I had my hand on the door handle all ready, steps away from getting the kid, giving her up, and forgetting today ever happened, but I froze. My feet felt like they’d grown roots into the floor.

“What is Baby Girl’s real name?” I hoped Rooster remembered it.

“Rami. Rami Jones. She’s a hell of a special woman, more than fender fluff, and you treat her with respect when you show up at her door or I’ll kick your ass.”

I didn’t let the old guy see my grin. “Noted, duly noted.” Rami Jones had to be a hell of a woman for this old guy to be so protective of her. I hoped she’d been kind to my daughter. My throat tightened. My daughter. Those words blew my mind. I was barely capable of taking care of myself. How would I handle a baby?

Rooster was right. I needed to take her to a hospital or the police department. She’d be safer with professionals. No matter how sensible that seemed, the idea of leaving the baby with a stranger hurt. I’d never had a family, but it felt wrong to do that to another person.

* * *

Rami

I peeked out through the peep hole when I heard the knock on the door. Leather and tattoos? This had to be the father. He was a Blood Moon, so I opened the door. “Hello.”

“Hey, are you Baby Girl — Rami Jones?”

“I am. You the dad? Scorpio?”

“I am.”

This was awkward as fuck. I didn’t want to hand Nicola to a stranger, but I had no authority to keep her. “What do you plan to do?” I still hadn’t opened the door all the way. The chain remained in place.

The guy was hot, strong, I tried not to stare at his tattooed muscular arms. My mouth went dry despite my knowing better. Yes, if it wasn’t for my vibrator, I’d be celibate. But a biker was the last thing I needed.

“Lady listen, thanks, but I got this. Let me in.” He paused. “Please.”

I stood there with my hand on the lock and indecision in my heart. Sighing, I slid the chain and opened the door. “Come in.”

Scorpio filled the small entry way with his massive body. I’m curvy and average height, so feeling small was totally weird. “Where is she?”

Excerpt from Dr. Feel Good

Dr. Arely Sampson, ship’s Medical Officer, jumped as the emergency warning sirens screamed out. She nearly dropped the vial of blood she’d just taken out of the centrifuge. With shaking hands she put it down and took off her gloves.

“Incoming priority message,” VI, the ship’s AI computer, informed Arely in her slightly flat, albeit incredibly human voice.

Arely tapped the smart fabric on the arm of her uniform. The fibers lit up and the captain’s image appeared. “Doctor, we need your team to shuttle bay three,” Captain Zahara ordered. “We’ve run across an Emergency Escape Pod. We’re reading one life form. VI has swept the pod and reports the occupant is alive, but life signs are weak. We’ll need your crew to secure the pod and transport the patient directly to isolation.”

“We’ll be there right away, Captain.” Arely grabbed her scanner and her med kit. She tapped her comm again. “Lt. Tamalia, get a team together and bring the decon unit to shuttle bay three.”

“The security team is already on the way,” the lieutenant replied.

In the corridor Arely paused momentarily to glance out a starboard porthole. A robotic arm was attaching to the EEP and drawing it toward the shuttle bay doors. She broke into a run. “Level Three,” she told the elevator as she stepped inside.

Thirty-six seconds later, she exited on the level she’d requested.

“The decon unit is ready, and there’s a security crew waiting on the dock,” Lt. Tamalia replied to her unspoken question.

She nodded as they jogged toward the shuttle bay. “Understood.” Arely turned on the portable scanner.

“Cargo bay doors are now closed and atmosphere has been returned to normal,” VI reported. “You may enter.”

“Good, let’s do it.”

Six Bliss crewmembers dressed in bio-hazard suits burst in to surround the small emergency pod. The doors sealed tightly behind them. Lt. Tamilia ran a scan of the door to verify the seal was airtight. The decon tube was ready to transport the alien. A bright light danced over the smooth metallic surface as VI scanned the pod. The pod opened and Arely got her first look at the very naked, very male body inside. Her eyes widened as she noticed the length and girth of his penis. Even limp the thing was impressive!

Arely pushed the unprofessional thought away and focused on what was important. The alien lay very still. For a moment, she thought he might be dead but then the scanner bleeped. He was alive. Barely. She gazed down at the expanse of pale flesh folded inside the emergency escape pod. He was far too large for the small space.

She stepped closer and the armed security detail made room for her near the decon unit. The alien’s tall, muscular body twitched, and she took a quick step back. The others around the pod reacted immediately. She could hear the whirl of stunners coming off standby.

“We’re going to need to take the tube to the medical bay,” Arely informed the group.

The Chief of Security, Nikili Berak, gave her a sour look. The handsome man’s mouth twisted. “Doctor, I understand your professional curiosity, but I cannot jeopardize the Bliss so you can study this creature.”

“Creature? According to VI’s readings, this being is humanoid and sentient. Per the 3056 act of medical reciprocity any Galactic Alliance ship is obligated to provide medical aid to all sentient beings we encounter. We will transport him to my med lab.” She glared back at the roguish Mobian. His people were fierce warriors, and he had a body that made her woman side purr — even as his professional side irritated her.

“Absolutely not.”

The man performing pull-ups caught Samantha’s eye not only because he had a body like a heavyweight boxer, but because tattoos covered him from the top of his shaved head to the waist of his black workout pants. The artwork probably extended to his lower body too.

At the gym she normally didn’t gawk at other people but focused on her workout, yet this guy commanded attention. On her way to the free weights, she passed him and stared at the broad expanse of his sweat-slicked back. Her gaze focused on the tattoo of a ship at sea. His rippling muscles gave the illusion of waves rippling around the vessel.

Samantha paused, unable to look away from the waves moving up and down.

Up and down.

Up and…

The spray of salt water on her face roused Samantha from her stupor. Her heart pounding, she glanced around. Instead of the familiar sight of weights, treadmills and other gym equipment around her, she saw people — most in evening wear — mingling on the deck of a yacht.

Glancing down, she nearly gave a scream of shock to find her workout clothes had been replaced by a low-cut, sleeveless silver gown and matching strappy sandals.

“Are you all right?” asked a slightly raspy but sexy male voice. A hand gently touched her lower back.

“No, I don’t know what happened,” she said, turning and staring into the most beautiful blue eyes she’d ever seen. They gazed at her with concern and underlying strength. He had a chiseled yet masculine face topped with reddish blond hair cropped close to his head. A strange feeling swept her, but she blamed it on the sudden disappearance of the gym.

“What do you mean?” he asked. This time Samantha detected a slight English accent. Tall and lean, he wore snug jeans, and the sleeves of his tan shirt were rolled up, exposing his powerful forearms. The shirt was open almost to his navel, and she tried not to get distracted by the sight of his sculpted chest.

“I don’t know how I got here. I was at the gym and… I have no idea where I am.” Panic almost overtook her, but the man slid an arm around her and guided her away from the ship’s rail.

She probably should have pulled away, but at the moment she needed someone to take control. Truly she had never felt so confused and scared in her life.

“Did you have a lot to drink?” he asked.

“I don’t drink.”

“Are you here with someone or did John invite you?”

“John?”

“He owns the yacht.”

“I don’t know any John with a yacht,” Samantha said and allowed him to lead her below deck to a room decorated in red and black. People mingled, drinking, dancing and talking. A bar stood at the far corner of the room and to her right people lingered around a buffet table.

“What’s your name?” he asked.

“Samantha. And you?”

“Geoffrey.” He guided her onto a chair and stooped in front of her, gently tilting her head from one side to the other, his blue gaze fixed on her neck.

At that moment she collected herself — or started to.

“What are you doing?” she asked. “Where am I exactly?”

“We’re somewhere off the coast of Hawaii. You don’t remember anything?”

“Yeah. I told you, I was at the gym and –“

“There’s a doctor aboard. I’ll get him. Don’t move.”

He stood and walked away. Despite being dumbfounded, she noticed the curve of his tight ass in the jeans.

What was wrong with her? She had absolutely no recollection of arriving on this ship, of being invited, or of meeting anyone named John.

Moments later, Geoffrey returned with a shorter, dark-haired man dressed in black whom he introduced as Dr. Wayne Butler. He asked her a series of questions, such as her address and the date, which Samantha answered without difficulty.

“I’m not crazy,” she said, then her brow furrowed. Or was she? After all, she was here on this yacht but had no idea how she had arrived.

A third man approached, this one tall and pale with steel gray eyes. He wore a black suit and charcoal tie. His short black hair was perfectly styled, despite the cool ocean breeze.

“John, what can you tell us about Samantha?” asked the doctor.

Geoffrey stared hard at their host, whose handsome brow furrowed. He shook his head and said, “I’m sorry. I don’t believe we’ve met.”

“No. We haven’t,” Samantha said. She’d have remembered him. He had eyes like the villain in a suspense flick.

“She doesn’t remember how she got here,” Dr. Butler said. “I suggest letting her rest for a while and turning back to shore. She should be checked out at a hospital.”

John smiled. “Of course. Samantha, do you need help back to your room?”

“I don’t have a room,” she said.

“Don’t worry. We’ll find you one.” John offered her his arm.

“I’ll take her,” Geoffrey interrupted.

He and John locked gazes, and Samantha had the awful feeling they would come to blows then and there.

“I will kill them all.” Vulwin wasted no time in breaking the magic circle he had created and stumbling down the stairs to his Dragon.

Mai hustled after him, looking as incensed as a Brownie could look as she flicked her fingers at him, cleaning him up and changing his clothes into a longer black tunic as he moved.

Vulwin had several things on his mind at the moment, but first he wanted to be with his mate. He left the wooden stairs and made it to the bedroom where Chinsie still sat beside a slumbering Iffear.

“Well, the link is broken to the chain and the poison,” Mai informed him as he moved into the bathroom. There was a popping sound and a smell of fresh herbs filled the air. “But you might want to bathe him to remove the rest. I have drawn a bath of elderberry, honeysuckle, plantain, and comfrey. It should soothe his pain and pull out what is left of the poisons in his system. I’m going to burn these sheets and change the bed… and then you can tell me what that grateful soul whispered to you.”

“A name, Mai,” Vulwin spoke softly as he unwound his Dragon from the blanket that encased him as Chinsie looked on. “It gave me a name.”

Mai tilted her head to the side and considered her friend’s mate for a moment. “I am to assume that this name will cease to be?”

“You can be assured that his direct line will cease to be,” Vulwin growled, but the aggression was restricted to his voice as he tenderly cradled his Dragon in his arms. His eyes filled with love as he stared down at Iffear.

“Bathe.” Mai waved her hand toward the waiting bath. “Get out and take your romantic nonsense with you. I have work to do. Chinsie and I are going to ward this house properly now that my secret is out.”

“Iffear didn’t know?” Vulwin pulled his eyes away from his mate long enough to ask.

“He suspected, but then he left me to my privacy. He gave me a choice. He has always given me choices. He’s cool like that.”

“Yes, he is,” Vulwin agreed before turning and exiting the room, his mate in arms, and he felt powerful Brownie magic begin to cleanse the air.

He had no idea how long he sat in the tub, cradling his mate close before Iffear jerked in his arms, his eyes snapping open.

“Settle,” Vulwin purred at Iffear, hugging him tighter to his chest. “Settle, my Dragon.”

“What happened?”

Vulwin smiled to discover not a hint of weakness in his mate’s voice. He watched, amazed, as Iffear sat up, his eyes traveling around the room, before he turned and centered his gaze onto him. “Vulwin?”

“You were poisoned.”

Iffear’s eyes widened at that before a low growl rolled from his throat. “How?”
His hand went to his chest, going to grip the amulet, and he started when he discovered that there was nothing there. Again his gaze went to Vulwin for an explanation.

“I sang it to rest, my Dragon. The soul is at peace.” Vulwin felt the tension leave his mate as he relaxed against him again.

“Yes.” Iffear was nodding. “I don’t feel its lure anymore, nor its cries of pain.” He looked up at Vulwin, his red eyes glittering in joy. “I thank you, my mate.”

“It was also how you were poisoned.” Vulwin knew that his voice had deepened in anger, but he couldn’t help himself. Someone had tried to make him suffer, to take away the one thing that he held most dear.

“It would not have killed me.” Iffear sniffed. “I am virtually indestructible, even more so with your protections holding me safe.” He waved the threat away. “It was a stupidity of their belief system and outdated information, I would assume.”

“Yet they did this to annoy me? To claim my vengeance? To start a war? It doesn’t make sense.” Vulwin reached out and pulled his Dragon into his arms, inhaling his scent, feeling his body warm and alive in his arms. “Why?”

“Miscalculation, I suppose.” Iffear hugged Vulwin back just as hard. “I am sorry I scared you.”

“Having a mate passing out mid-coitus will do that to a Dhrow.” Vulwin relented and joked a little, though he was still horrified at the thought of losing his mate. “You stole years of my life away.”

Iffear snorted, flicking him on the nose with a wet finger. “You haven’t even reached maturity yet, Dhrow. You have years to spare. And then you can’t start losing them until after our son is grown. Seeing you have a neat piece of contraception jewelry, um… thrust upon you, that won’t even happen until the king decides to release you.”

Iffear chuckled but stopped as Vulwin stiffened in his arms. “Say that again?”

“No son, because you haven’t reached your majority?” Iffear pulled back enough to look back up at him again. “Contraception ring?”

“It is not common knowledge that I have not yet reached the age of my majority,” Vulwin said carefully as his mind roared with plots and information and schemes. Being politically minded was a bitch some days, but in other ways it did more than make one suspicious of everyone else’s motives. Sometimes it pointed you in the correct direction whether you wanted it to or not.

Excerpt from Molten

I started stroking my schel — cock to many of you humanoids — and let my brain drift to sexual places I’d enjoyed in the past. My one and only session with the Orgasmatron. Threesome sex with the male twins from Fortunas Delta. And the one that just made my toes curl — a yearly fuck from the demon sex club on Trios.

And then there was him. The one I’d never had but always imagined to be somewhere. The one I looked for in every crowd. The one every other encounter failed, if only marginally, to equal.

Though I became instantly hard and ready to rock, the egg chose that moment to melt. Deform. Puddle.

Nothing will put a wilt in a creature’s sexual enthusiasm like having your partner disintegrate before penetration, let alone afterward. Unless, of course, that’s how they get off. But I’d never come across one who did that, and I didn’t feel that was the case with my egg partner.

The egg did this kind of melting thing, and then this pulsing thing, and then it just kind of ran together and began to rise. Not even a ripple crossed its surface as it took on another shape. That action alone should have told me something important but I didn’t figure out what until later.

When this organism finished re-morphing, it was my turn to collapse. Faint, really. For what I saw before me was not an egg, but the male of my dreams. No, I don’t mean the kind you have when you shut down for an hour in the rejuvenation chamber and wake a bit sticky. I mean the real mental fantasy I had when I was, err, egging on the egg. The perfect male I’d pictured but never met.

Now I know anything on Parkeet Station is labeled as humanoid as long as the being has at least two arms, two legs, one head and walks vaguely upright. All other details are optional and haphazard.

This humanoid was the best formed being the known multiverse had to offer. He had these golden eyes that fluttered open and closed with waves of emotion, and hair that hung in bronze streaks braided with gold to his waist.

His forehead had become so blue it was nearly black, but the color softened as it headed down his body until the tips of his toes were solar flare white. Plus he had all the right pieces in all the right places. So fucking gorgeous I couldn’t breathe. Didn’t breathe. Until my body reminded me that if I wanted to go on looking at him I required oxygen.

So I did that breathing thing again, and he still remained. My living dream. And, see, the thing is, he doesn’t really exist. My dream is just that. There’s no being I’ve seen in any dive, slave auction, or any other palace that resembled this creature. But there he was, standing in front of me, so he had to be real, right?

A morphing egg. One who knew what I liked. Egg sex then became not only possible, it just had to happen or my brain would implode. The concept of hearing “no” from those incredible azure lips just — no, not going there.

I stood and pointed at my chest, thinking I should at least attempt to introduce myself. “Dolan.”

It… he… turned his head as if considering this. “Xzavia’n.”

Right. The word sounded exotic and sexy, but he could have been talking about his mother for all I knew. But for now, I considered that his name. “Hello, Xzavia’n.”

His mouth crooked in a smile and I had the feeling he was trying hard not to laugh at my pronunciation. “Zian,” he supplied.

OK, that sounded like a name and one I could handle. I took another step closer to him and brushed my thumb against his cheek. His skin was extraordinary. Not plastic, not fur, and yet both. “Hello, Zian.”

He reached for my face and I anticipated a similar gesture, but he ran his fingers through my hair, tugging my face close to his, and kissed me. Deeply. Leisurely. As if exploring my mouth had no equal pleasure.
