Magic Touch (Witches of Windsor #1)

Publication Date: April 19, 2022

Genre: Paranormal/ Historical Romance/ Witches

ESME

I never dreamed my small curatives shop in Windsor, England would attract the attention of war hero Sir William Meriwether. My feminine heart is aflutter when he enters. But I’m a witch and a healer, and he’s a man in pain, so I heal him. Desperate to do him a good service, I stretch my powers to the limit—or perhaps beyond. Somehow, in curing his ailing leg, I unleash powers inside William. At a loss to stop what’s begun, I’m forced to seek assistance from the coven I’ve sworn never to join. I dread the encounter, but for William’s sake, I put my family’s hatred aside. Getting to spend more time with William is an added enticement.

WILLIAM

I’m mesmerized by Esme O’Dwyer from the moment I lay eyes on her. Despite our different stations in society, I want something more personal than any restorative tea she might offer. As a gentleman, I contain those baser needs, and accept her assistance to ease the pain in my leg. When the alluring witch’s touch bestows me with magic of my own, I want no part of it. But the coven’s leaders insist magic never make mistakes, and for this to have happened, I must be needed. I’ve never been one to shy away from duty, and being secluded for training with Esme is magical in more ways than one.

ESME

Trouble is coming to Windsor. The signs are all there. The race is on to train William as a witch before his power is needed, but our growing attraction is as undeniable as the battle that lies ahead.

Excerpt from Dark Before Dawn

Night fell upon the longest stretch of lonely road Aaron had ever traveled. He’d stopped about an hour ago to ask directions from an elderly man walking a wolf-dog. Aaron generally wasn’t afraid of animals, but the way this canine had snarled and growled, its eyes blazing and fangs flashing, Aaron had been wary. Unfortunately the old man hadn’t been much friendlier than the dog, but he’d given Aaron curt directions to the nearest highway. At least he’d told Aaron it was the fastest route. About ten minutes ago he’d turned down a dirt road, past an iron gate the old man had described. Now he wasn’t so sure the directions were accurate. Maybe the old dude had decided to play a trick on an obvious city guy. Aaron looked like he belonged deep in the country about as much as the wolf-dog belonged in a city park.

The night grew darker and Aaron started to worry. He was nearly out of gas and the car was making a strange grating sound, not to mention the check engine light had turned on seconds ago. He’d been driving since six o’clock in the morning and that was after a measly four hours of sleep. If the car didn’t die first, Aaron might end up falling asleep behind the wheel. He was torn between pulling over to get some rest and continuing a little farther to see if the turnoff for the highway was nearby after all. Then fate made the decision for him. The damn car choked and died.

Cursing, Aaron tried to start it, but it refused to move. Finally he sighed, folded his arms on the wheel and rested his head on them. He closed his eyes.

“I’ll only relax for a minute,” he said. He’d just started zoning out when he jumped awake.

Was he crazy?

He couldn’t sit here in the middle of a dark road. If someone happened to drive by, they’d crash into him.

Groaning, he stepped out of the car and pushed it to a safer position along the side of the road. By now it was so dark that his hazards were the only light in the area. He wished he’d charged his cell phone battery before leaving the hotel. At least then he could call for help. Before leaving on his business trip, he’d accidentally left his car phone charger in his second vehicle. An hour into his journey he realized he’d forgotten it, but he’d decided not to turn back for it. Now he wished he had. An hour of inconvenience would have saved him hours, maybe even a night, in the woods of northeast USA. Even better, why hadn’t he simply flown?

Seated behind the wheel, he set his chair to a full recline position and, using his black sports jacket as a blanket, settled down to rest.

Aaron felt like he’d just drifted off when banging on his window roused him.

He jumped up, his heart pounding, and stared at a slim, dark-haired man standing near his car.

“Hey,” the guy shouted, his voice muffled through the closed window. “You can’t stay here.”

His brow furrowed, Aaron opened the window partway and said, “I don’t have much choice. My car died and my cell is out of batteries. Do you have a phone by any chance?”

The guy closed his eyes and shook his head. “I don’t believe this. This is private property.”

“You own the road?” Aaron asked, raising a suspicious eyebrow.

“Road? Mister, this is my driveway. Didn’t you see the gate at the end?”

“Yeah.”

“So you just opened it and drove on through?” the guy asked, a harsh edge to his voice.

Curling his lip, Aaron said, “No. It was wide open.”

“Open?”

“Yeah, so I didn’t realize it was private property.” Aaron sighed and shook his head. “Besides the old guy with the wolf dog said this would take me to the highway.”

“Old guy with the wolf dog? That’s Mr. Seymour. He’s a little nuts. I wouldn’t doubt it if he opened the damn gate.”

“I’m sorry for trespassing, but –“

“Any other time I wouldn’t care if you parked all night. Just not tonight.”

“I told you –“

“I know. I know. Well, you can’t stay here. It’s not safe.”

Now Aaron became suspicious. What was this guy up to? “Why?” he asked.

“There’s a private hunting party going on. You might get hurt and I don’t want to be responsible.”

“Then how about either letting me use a phone or calling a ride for me?”

The man stared at him for a long moment. The flashing hazard lights cast eerie shadows on his face, but he seemed to be quite handsome with fabulous cheekbones, a long, slender nose and wide set eyes. Aaron couldn’t tell exactly what color they were, but they looked light.

“All right,” the guy said. “My cabin isn’t far. You can come with me.”

Rowan McAuliffe has been hiding most of her life. Secretly trained in her powers by an unusual source, she’d been taught not to trust anyone. Especially other witches. However, after she was forced to perform a hateful act against her will, she now hides from the Covens Syndicate and their judgement.

Greyson Masters is the Syndicate’s best hunter. On top of the danger of his job, Greyson is trying to raise his triplet daughters alone, budding new witches who display an alarming combined power no one understands. Too bad he doesn’t have a clue how to deal with them.

Until Rowan walks in and the chaos settles for the first time in…well, ever.

Little does Greyson realize that his new nanny is the very witch he is hunting, and she’s been hiding right under his nose this whole time.

EXCERPT:

Her gaze dropped to his mouth, and tension filled the spaces inside him like a curtain of electricity. Awareness, impossible to not call what it was.

Rowan snatched her gaze away, and his head cleared enough for the realization to seep in that he hadn’t smiled, truly smiled, since his wife’s death. The thought struck hard and he rubbed at a spot on his chest as his mind transitioned from turned on, to shock, to aggravated at himself in the space of seconds, left buzzing with emotion either way.

Pulling his own gaze away, he cleared his throat. He shouldn’t be letting his nanny affect him this way. “I should’ve guessed Delilah would send me someone more than capable.”

“I don’t know about that,” she muttered under her breath. “So all of it was a test. The burnt dinner?”

Greyson grimaced. “Yes.”

“The girl’s running away?”

He nodded.

“What about their fight this morning?”

Another grimace. “That was real.”

“And your attitude?”

He frowned. “What attitude?”

She peered at him for a long moment, and Greyson got the uneasy impression she found him wanting somehow.

“Never mind,” she murmured. Was she placating him?

“Are the schedule and the expectations of me the same?” she asked.

“Yes.” What was wrong with his schedule?

Her mouth pursed, but she nodded. “Fine.”

“So you’ll stay?” Oddly, Greyson found himself holding his breath for her response. An hour in her company, surrounded by her wildflower and honey scent, and part of him wanted her to stay. So unlike him, he brushed that wayward feeling aside with irritation and waited for her response.

She sighed. “I don’t have a choice.”

The words, or maybe the way she said them, triggered instinct honed over years of being a hunter. “What does that mean?”

A strong emotion flashed in her eyes. If he had to guess, he would’ve said panic, but the expression was gone so quickly he couldn’t be sure.

Then she offered a sweet smile. “It means you clearly need help. So, yes, I’ll stay.”

Greyson levered to his feet. He needed help, did he? “I’ll be in my room if you need me. Good night, Rowan.” Her name felt strange on his lips. Right and wrong at the same time.

“Mr. Masters—” She stopped him at the door, and he swung to face her, eyebrows raised in question.

She didn’t bother to get up. “Don’t test me like that again.”

Or what?

“Remember…observations can go two ways.”

Did she just imply she was observing him? Before he could snap out a question, she stood and turned off the TV. “Good night.”

Greyson headed back upstairs, coming to terms with a rare experience. He’d been effectively dismissed by a woman who happened to be his girls’ nanny. Most women rushed to please him. Rowan practically sprinted in the opposite direction.

Bigger question…why did her contrary reaction turn him on?

Five witches set out to change their destiny.

Magic and Mayhem

Bannon Murphy, proprietress of Beachmoore Inn, has her hands full with a convention of Seelie tourists in town for Blansett’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Not only does she have to keep the pixies and sprites separated, she has to keep a high prince of the Seelie court happy and the banshee guests from scaring the terrene vacationers half to death with their wailing.

Into the midst of all this madness walks gorgeous Deaglan O’Brian, a Tuatha Dé Danann with powers of his own. Despite her dedication to work, and her love of running the inn, Bannon can’t help but get distracted by Deaglan’s good looks and flirtations.

When a rival faction tries to destroy the week-long celebrations, Bannon finds herself teaming up with Deaglan to save Blansett from a wicked witch and her evil husband, but along the way, she finds love in the midst of magic and mayhem.

Princess o’ the Green

Tabby Whitlock’s happy life crashes around her when a little green queen appears in her brother’s closet. Rionach claims Tabby is the new princess and decrees that, on St. Patrick’s Day, Tabby must choose between service and love. The choice of love seems easy enough now that Tabby has met Max Gallagher.

Max is a shy earth witch who grew up surrounded by love and laughter. His greatest wish is to find a woman to share his life. When he meets Tabby, he knows she’s the woman who will fill the void in his life. When Tabby begins to change, Max knows something else: he’ll stick by her no matter what.

Tabby will need the luck of the Irish and all the love and support she and Max can muster—because the choice between service and love isn’t always as easy as you’d think.

Earth’s Sky

Jenn Skyler is a constant if nothing else, an air witch who values her independence. She is a thoughtful analyst of life and sees things as straightforward while intellectually weighing all that comes before her.

Nevlin Rowe enjoys life and all its forms. He loves everyone, and no one. As a Druid scholar, he’s had lifetimes of lessons and experiences and devoted many, many years to caring for, protecting, and being part of the Earth.

When Nevlin comes to the town of Blansett, he does so with a prophecy, as well as a curse. When the sea turns green, that is not all that changes. Jenn is suspicious of him and his intentions, and seeking answers, she discovers not only has Nevlin enjoyed lifetimes of journeys, he has spent centuries seeking answers of his own. Now there are signs all around if only they can interpret them.

As Air meets Earth, a whirlwind of emotion erupts and Nevlin becomes determined to bring Jenn down to Earth. Will their connection be limitless like the Sky itself or grounded like the Earth? Or do all signs point another way?

Healer’s Kiss

Paige Jessop is a destroyer in the outside world, but in the realm of supernaturals, she is considered “gifted.” She lives a life of chaos and isolation until her godmother, Helena-Marie, magically summons her to Blansett, North Carolina. There Paige finds out about her extraordinary powers and her family’s cursed past.

Dr. Zack Lewis is tasked with helping Paige hone her gifts. It’s an unnerving reality since she is literally the woman of his nightmares, but he can’t deny the unexplainable need to be near her.

Both Paige and Zack are healers. One by profession, one by nature. As both of their families’ secrets and curses threaten to destroy them, they must decide whether true love really can conquer all.

Mystic Heart

Lucy Blansett has two options; solve an ancient prophecy before midnight on her birthday or watch the magic in her hometown be destroyed. Meeting a man who’s convinced she’s his future wife isn’t in her plans, but she’s quickly finding out that sometimes plans need to change. Together they’ll have to fight the elements and their attraction to stay focused on solving the mystery.

EXCERPT

Lightning skittered across the sky, the brilliant flashes lighting up everything around her. Thunder boomed overhead, shaking the earth beneath her feet. The high-powered winds whipped her long, red hair around her head and made her fight for purchase on the pavement. It was a bad night out, for witches and mortals alike. If only she hadn’t lost her damn wand! What was a witch without her wand? Damn near mortal, that’s what. The heavens were going to open up at any moment and she would be drenched. Taking a witch’s wand was as good as stealing her powers. No, she didn’t need the wand to create magick, but if it wasn’t in her possession, her powers sort of…fizzled and died out.

Her high-heeled sandals were a poor choice of footwear at the moment, as she tottered down the sidewalk, following the beacon of light in the distance. She’d cast a locator spell in hopes of finding her wayward wand. She wasn’t certain if it had been appropriated by someone, or had merely wandered off, kind of like her broom had done the month before. Anyone who thought a wand was an inanimate object was a fool. It had a life force of its own. Otherwise, it would just be a piece of wood with pretty carvings.

The beam of light shooting into the sky started to flicker, and she worried it would sputter out completely. She could tell it was in the area the residents of Mayfair Heights called “the jungle.” Only shape-shifters lived in that part of town. Despite the ominous clouds in the sky, she knew there was a full moon tonight. She just had to hope whoever had taken the wand, or the lucky person her wand had chosen as its guardian, was in residence. It would be just her luck that the furball would be out on a run, even if the weather did leave a lot to be desired.

With the wind buffeting her small body, she felt like she was fighting an uphill battle, and wondered if she’d ever reach her destination. If her powers weren’t on the fritz, she could just translocate to wherever she needed to go. But, of course, on the worst night they’d had in months, she was stuck traveling on foot. She couldn’t even use her broom until she was at full power again. The damn thing refused to work. She completely blamed the tree sprite, the one who had gifted her with the branch used to carve the broom handle. It had obviously imbued some of its stubbornness into her broom.

Breena rounded another corner and sighed in relief. The home she sought was half a block away and lit up like the fourth of July, thanks to her little spell. She thanked the goddess that it had worked so well, or at all, for that matter. She couldn’t imagine having to find her wand the old-fashioned way, or having to hire someone else to cast the spell for her. How embarrassing! It was bad enough that things like this kept happening to her, but if the spell-casters guild caught wind of it, they’d pull her license to practice for sure.

As she neared the home, she took in the little details, like the gargoyles standing guard at the edges of the roof. She had no doubt they were the real thing and gave them a little wave. The red door stood out in stark contrast against the gray and black home, beckoning her closer. She stepped under the portico just as the rain began to beat down, a deluge really, and she thanked the goddess she hadn’t been standing out in the open just then.

She lifted her fist and knocked on the door, listening for any sounds of life within. No answer. She banged again, this time a little harder. The light from her spell spluttered and blinked out, leaving her standing in the dark. The fact that there were no lights on in the home, nor on the porch, told her that her query was probably out running wild, but she refused to give up.

Breena’s tiny fist pounded on the door for the third time. Grumbling under her breath, she gave the wood a good, hard kick, wincing as her toes met the unforgiving surface. She had just turned, and was about to leave, when the door flew open.

“Do you have any idea what time it is?” growled a deep voice, a voice that zinged through her and made all of her lady parts take notice.

She spun around with a snappy retort on the tip of her tongue, but it died the moment she was faced with six-foot-six of yummy goodness. A button-down shirt hung open, leaving his scrumptious muscular chest in full view. Her gaze dipped down over six pack abs and she licked her lips, wanting to run her tongue over each and every inch of him.

“I’m, uh, looking for my wand,” she stuttered lamely, her brain having been fried by his hotness.

He smirked. “Oh, I have a wand for you all right, but I don’t think it’s the one you came looking for.”
