As if the rumors and whispers from the people of her seaside town, Oceanbrook, weren’t bad enough, 17-year-old Sarah D’Antonio is troubled by the whispers from the forest. It’s not her fault that she hears voices, that she sees auras, and that she has been sleepwalking along the shore. The townspeople, and Sarah’s parents among them, claim that it is all in response to stress, including her chronic migraines and panic attacks. They believe that she can’t come to grips with the fact that her cousin, Lena, is dead. But Sarah knows that the things she is experiencing are real and not something she is bringing on herself. She also knows that Lena is not dead, only missing. She believes that there is something more supernatural going on and that the town is hiding secrets.

Sarah’s feelings are validated when she suddenly becomes thrust into a world in which she has always sensed but never seen. A world of fairy witches, shape-shifters, and legendary creatures. The world of the astral plane. And now, it will be up to her to form alliances to save the magic, fix the astral plane, and most importantly, to bring her cousin home.

EXCERPT:

I had lost so much over the span of the last few years. Second-guessing everything but still trying to find a reason behind why bad things happen. It’s not like I didn’t know that life wasn’t fair, but living with chronic illness and how everyone reacted differently to Lena’s disappearance really drove home the fact that I would never be able to fully trust my relationships, my health, or even my beliefs. I think that’s what scared me the most. Everything that I had believed was shaken, and I had to build a new normal. I had to build myself back up. Only, I didn’t have a solid foundation on which to do it.

Goodreads / Pre-order

SNEAK PEEK:

Then I see where I’m standing, at the edge of an ivy-covered gate, black iron, sharp-toothed rods I recognize well, even in the damp, cold night. The entrance to the Thorn Valley Cemetery. My freezing fingers lace tighter around Eva’s, and I look down at my bare, mud-caked feet. I’m in my blue satin nightgown, half-sheathed by my lace ivory bathrobe. Gasping, I cover myself and whirl around in the damp cold, searching the night for signs of life
or reason.

“Why am I here? What are we doing here?”

Eva releases my hand but keeps her eyes locked on mine as if I might disappear. She shakes as she tugs the quilt from her shoulders to wrap me in its warmth. “You had another spell,” she says, still trembling as she guides me away from the gate. “You were trying to climb up and over. Your sister called me and said you were gone, that your bedroom window was open, the curtains pulled wide. She woke up to make tea because she couldn’t sleep and had a feeling

she should check on you.”

“Another dream.”

“Yes.”

“They’re getting worse.”

“I know.”

“I was . . . on the coast.” Dizzy and dazed, I pause for a beat to get my bearings. Eva stalls too, waiting patiently for me to find my balance. “The sea was coming for me, it wanted to drown me. I was running, then climbing . . . trying to climb toward the sky.” I can feel Eva’s horror, her pupils like frozen, black saucers stunned as they study my face.

“There was so much sun, so much blue, an unwavering stillness on land. But the sea . . . it roared, it wouldn’t stop reaching for me. I felt an earthquake, an imminent tsunami in the distance, even in the stillness. I couldn’t let it have me, I just couldn’t—” Eva takes hold of my shoulders, carefully turning me toward her. I know in that moment my eyes are tinged with a ripple of madness, and that she sees it, too. “This is going to stop.”

Author Bio:

DM Million: I grew up in southern New Jersey, reading fantasy and paranormal books. I love anything that whisks me away to another world, and I wanted to create my own worlds for readers like myself to enjoy. I believe reading is not only an escape from our real-world problems, but a way to expand our minds, keep us sharp, and bring us joy. What I love about books is that we can use our imaginations to “see” what the author sees. When we watch TV or a movie, we can turn off our creativity and mindlessly view what the creators intended for us. But reading requires the engaging of our creative minds. I hope that you will enjoy my stories as much as I have enjoyed writing them.

R. M. Carpus is the author of THE CITY WIFE and co-founder of Wraith House. Born in Philly and raised in sunny Southwest Florida, her nomadic spirit has carried her all over the U.S. She now resides in the moody Pacific Northwest, where she dwells with ghosts of the bygone grunge era, always on the lookout for Eddie Vedder, killer whales, and inspiration for the next book. When she’s not reading or writing, she’s engrossed in ’90s music and reruns, catching a film at SIFF, or hiding away in the San Juan Islands or the Olympic Peninsula. She loves animals, the ocean, and spooky season.

Timeless Pirouette

Time Flies Book 2

A vivid dream of
the past. A desperate hope for the future.

My name is Brie Lenz.

In the hushed sanctuary of a Boeing 747’s crew rest in 1983, amidst the hum of
engines and the dance of distant clouds, I lay my head down as a South African
Airways air hostess. I dream of a beguiling beggar, his eyes a mesmerizing
shade of emerald, who ignites a flame in my soul. His ambitions for my ballet
career in 1887, take me higher than I ever dreamed. He is my anchor, my guiding
light, my inspiration, my love.

But as reality pierces through the veil of slumber at 36,000 feet, I am jolted
awake, haunted by the echoes of Tchaikovsky and the lingering mystery of that
enigmatic beggar. With the pulse of an odd drumbeat echoing in my ears and a
shiver coursing through my veins, destiny delivers, this time, in real life. Is
it too good to be true?

Fast-forward to the present, and though embers of that centuries-old connection
still smolder within me with the man I adore, I cannot deny there is something
missing and something amiss. When an unexpected invitation to a transformative
retreat arrives, I am torn between fear and fervor. And amongst women I barely
know, I find myself in a magical odyssey of self-discovery and a crossroads
filled with pitfalls and shrouded in guilt.

Can I reclaim the lost magic of 1877 and weave it into the fabric of my
present, or will the past that lurks beyond that crew rest dream continue to
cast its long shadow over my future?

With my heart suspended between two worlds, I brace myself for the ultimate
reckoning.

Jill
Wallace was born and bred (her mother would prefer ‘brought up’) in South
Africa, and lived the second half of her life in America. She feels like the
African baobab or “Upside Down Tree”, with roots that look like branches. Like
the confused baobab, she no longer knows where the South African ends and the
American begins. She’s comfortable in her duality and hopes like hell it
affords her some degree of complexity. A girl can always hope :o)

Sometimes,
she loves dogs more than people, chocolate more than good sense, and Netflix
binge-watching more than house cleaning (well… make the latter ALL the time!)

Jill’s
addicted to writing. Expect her novels to have a South African flair, and no
matter the century of her characters, she’ll strive to keep their situations
relevant and their emotions real.

Wallace
listens to the voices in her head which describe their dilemma and state of
chaos. Then she waits, pen poised, to see what they’ll do about it. She records
how they find the courage and strength to attain what they really
want—be it friendship, peace, acceptance, or everlasting love. That’s the magic
that keeps her heart pounding in her throat and her fingers flirting with keys.

Jill
started her writing career as a screenwriter. Her first script was twice
optioned by producers for movies. When disappointment flooded in and dreams
collapsed, an author friend said, “To hell with them all. Write a book.” So,
she did. It took her three years.

War Serenade is inspired
by a true story about a bon vivant Italian opera star forced into WWII, who is
shot down, captured by the allies and sent to a run-down POW camp in South
Africa. Broken and longing for death, he sees a spunky red head through the
barbed wire and when their eyes meet, she becomes his reason to live. But he is
a prisoner, and she, his enemy…

War Serenade won a
number of awards, the most recent are the Golden Quill Contest Winner Desert
Rose RWA, Maggie and Rone Awards 2020, for best audio book.

Zebra is Jill’s
second novel and largely based on her husband’s experiences. Athol grew up in a
remote resort in the Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa during the apartheid
era and fought in the Bush Wars in the 60’s and 70’s. This literary
fiction/historical/action adventure/coming-of-age saga spans 4 decades. Though
the times are incendiary, Zebra is not about politics but a divine, true
bond of friendship. Zebra. Friends by Fate. Enemies by Destiny proudly
wore the Amazon Banner for #1 New Release and is also a ***** Reader’s
Favorite.

Time Flies is Jill’s
first series. The common threads with her stand-alone books are the South
African infusion, the dog-hero, friendship, impossible challenges and complex
timelines.

Timeless Beginnings is Book 1 of the series has multiple and it’s the
story of how five ex-air hostesses end up at the home of Lucky, now a FBI
psychic, who’s keen to try -as a last resort – past life regression to find the
soulmate she lost after she dreamed about him in the crew rest of a 747 in the
80’s. Four other ex-hosties are just as anxious to find their centuries-ago
soulmates.

Timeless Pirouette is Book II and the story of Brie who dreams she
was a beautiful ballerina who fell in love with a beggar in 1887. Though she
believes she met and married the perfect man for her, she fights an
incomprehensible guilt and can’t help yearning for her beggar. She is compelled
to go back a century before she can go forward.

Jill is in the process of finishing up Athol’s
companion novel to Zebra. Titled Leopard Crawl it’s the true-story-inspired
missions of one man on a solitary spying sojourn in the heart of the Southern
African Bush Wars.

EXCERPT

“Don’t give him your address. I wonder if they can help you
find your father,” Evelyn said.

“They won’t. Jack isn’t any help. I’ll just look
myself. I’ll think about going to the police. We don’t have a
phone. I don’t like this.”

When they got home, it felt much cooler in the house. They grabbed drinks
and the telephone directory and went upstairs. Tyra did find a Nathaniel
Johnston—she actually found two of them. “Evelyn, another big
house to go look at later. I found Nathaniel.”

“Good.” Evelyn took everything out of her bag. They laid the
blue velvet table cover, the candles, and the Ouija board in front of them
on the floor.

“I’ll go get a couple candlesticks. We will try a séance
and use the board tonight,” Tyra said.

“Hattie, where are the candlesticks?” Tyra called.

“In the hallway by the kitchen!” Hattie answered.

She and Evelyn raced there and grabbed two.

Hattie appeared. “Be careful with those. Matches are in the
kitchen.”

“Thanks,” Tyra responded. “Have you ever seen a ghost in
here?”

“No, never,” Hattie responded.

“Hopefully, we will,” Tyra said as she headed for the kitchen.
She grabbed the matches.

“We won’t light them now, not until tonight,” she told
Evelyn.

“My mom is coming by in the morning to come and get me,” Evelyn
said.

Tyra nodded. “We’re going to try a séance. I read about
them in the paper.”

“I don’t want you to do that. I told you I haven’t seen
any ghosts here. When the wind blows, you can hear it loud. This is an old
house. Your dad said it was built in the 1790s,” Hattie said.

“We’ll just try. It probably won’t work.” Tyra went
to her room as Evelyn followed.

“Is it even worth the time?” Evelyn asked.

“No, but this is.” Tyra pulled out a rolled-up Ouija board that
looked like a map. She took the planchette out of Evelyn’s purse.
“I didn’t tell Hattie we had this.” They sat on the floor
and felt the beautiful soft velvet.

What am I going to say? First and foremost, I’m a diehard snoop. I absolutely have to know what’s going on. “Sure, Sheriff Harper. I can’t wait to be ushered into the inner circle.” My snarky tone is not lost on my intelligent boyfriend.

“Don’t get a burr under your saddle, Moon. It’s all good, I promise.”

He grabs his thick uniform jacket, takes my hand, and leads me out to his cruiser.

As he opens the door for me, a cloud of sadness blows over me. Is this my last time riding in the cruiser with the sheriff? What is he going to do next? And more importantly, where is he going to do it?

He closes the door, jogs around the front of the vehicle — making his plain uniform look like an Armani European-cut suit — and hops into the driver’s seat.

He cruises down Main Street, past Rex’s Drugstore, the boarded up Montgomery Wards, and a few other abandoned buildings whose signs have long-faded. When the iron ore mines shut down, most of Birch County took a massive financial hit. Towns like Pin Cherry Harbor have been able to keep afloat by repositioning themselves as enviable tourist destinations.

The sheriff turns right and heads across Third Avenue, past my favorite patisserie, and right again, eventually making it back to First Avenue.

We’re only a few blocks past my bookshop, back on the corner of First and Main, when he turns into an old gas station. This particular abandoned petrol station played a key part in a previous case I solved, and I happen to know it used to belong to local criminal mastermind Leticia Whitecloud. Not to mention, it connects to a warren of underground tunnels used during the prohibition era.

Despite the little pout I’m having, my curiosity is piqued.

Erick jumps out, opens my door, and instructs me to close my eyes.

“Close my eyes? I don’t think I like any part of this, Sheriff. You do know I have quite a lot of other senses I can rely on, even when my eyes are closed.”

He circles his arm around me, leans tantalizingly close, and whispers in my ear. “I’d consider it a personal favor if you would turn off all of those other senses, and let me have this moment. I promise I’ll make it worth your while.”

And I’m dead

He fingered a tendril of auburn hair that had escaped her ponytail and fallen across her cheek. “Your expressions are as changeable as the clouds. What were you just thinking?”

He was close enough now for her to feel the heat from his body, and the forest stilled. Her being filled with a fevered waiting.

A woman laughed, her voice a raucous cawing, and Riga blinked. A party of hikers tramped along the trail beneath them. Someone below made a joke about mountain lions.

Riga relaxed onto her elbow. “I was thinking about an old movie called The Bishop’s Wife – the original version with David Niven and Cary Grant and Loretta Young.”

“Good movie,” he said. “It had a wine bottle that magically refilled itself. Port, I think. A bit sweet for my tastes, but this port was –” He stopped at Riga’s look. “What?”

Nonplussed, she stared. “You’ve just… taken my conversational thread in a completely different direction.”

“Sorry. You wanted to say something else about the movie?”

“Forget it.”

“No really, go on.”

“No.” Riga struggled not to laugh. “I don’t want to anymore.”

He sighed. “Okay. Let’s pretend I didn’t say anything about the wine bottle, even though it is the best part of the movie. You said you were thinking of The Bishop’s Wife. And I said, ‘really?’”

“Okay. What I was thinking was how sad it was that when the angel left, nobody remembered he’d ever been there and caused all those miracles to happen in their lives. They thought they’d just done it on their own.”

Donovan nodded. “I don’t think it mattered that the characters didn’t remember him. Their lives had been changed. Perhaps it was best they thought that they’d done it themselves.”

“I suppose,” Riga said, unconvinced. “But the movie was true in one sense – that’s the nature of the metaphysical experience. You can’t hold onto the experience. It comes and goes in a flash. You understand deep in your soul that something marvelous has happened, but you’ll never be able to prove or explain it.”
