New Release: Love in Danger by E.D. Parr #LGBTQ #SciFi @parr_books

Writing Love in Danger from E. D. Parr,

When I wrote Love in Danger, I wanted the story to have a completely different feel to my other stories.

Usually, my stories have the two main characters that are going to fall in love meeting in the first few chapters. Their meeting and falling in love is the story. There is always a happy ending, so often I will give readers a look at their future in a decision to stay together, marry, or a view of how happy they are after being committed partners for some time. I’m a big fan of love at first sight. Readers can blame it on Jane Austen, Shakespeare, and even Dickens to a certain extent.

So what’s different in Love in Danger? The two main romantic heroes are already together as Love in Danger starts. They’re warrior partners and lovers. They’ve been together for some time.

Writing this story with the heroes already in love gave me such pleasure, I might have to write another story where this is the case. (Smiles) The love between Corin and Marcus is obvious, but Corin can’t admit that he loves Marcus by saying the actual words, and that forms the romance ‘conflict’ within the story. This Sci-Fi story has horror themes, and adventure, including events that focus Corin on the need to tell Marcus besides showing him just how much he loves Marcus.

Marcus adores Corin and isn’t afraid to say so. He’s a sweetheart and it shows in how we see him assisting Corin.

Both heroes are special to me. Their origins and courage are epic. Their love is red hot and tender. I don’t know any authors who don’t fall in love with their characters. I always do, so I hope that readers love Corin and Marcus. I hope too, that readers enjoy the inclusion of another warrior in the story, Zeb, who used to be Corin’s lover. He’s a big part of the story without being part of the romance.

I hope readers enjoy Love in Danger, as much I loved writing it.

Love in Danger

Centuries ago, the planet they cherished was conquered, but now three warriors from an ancient race of gifted beings intend to remedy that.

Lovers, handsome Corin JaKobi and gorgeous Marcus D’Ath are members of an elite planetary squad that rid the city sectors of the mysterious and dangerous Fallen.

When an old friend uncovers the true horrific nature of the elders in the organization they work for, anger at their duplicity drives Corin, Marcus, and rogue squadron hunter, Zeb to plan for the ruling group’s demise.

It won’t be easy, and when Marcus is captured and detained at the elders’ pleasure, Corin’s white-hot fury at the thought of losing the man he loves knows no bounds.

Will Corin get to his beloved, Marcus, in time to stop the horror that awaits him?

Can the warriors free the planet and return it to the lovely place it was before the aggressors arrived?

Marcus soared above Sector Six with Corin seated beside him perusing the magnified images of the streets below from the cloaked skycar. They were on a reconnaissance flight ordered abruptly just before nightfall. The tech needed for this sort of mission necessitated the craft.

“What are we looking for?” He glanced across at Corin as he brought the skycar down to skim the three story buildings, knowing the Zangnuit’s supertech-infrared onboard cameras would show up in detail anything giving off a heat signature within.

“Not a clue, Marcus. I guess they’ll know it in operations when they see it. We just have to transmit the scanned data to them. So far, all appears peaceful. Holy fucking twin-moons, that’s Zeb.”

Marcus gazed down in the direction Corin waved. Sure enough, Zeb Farrell exited a skycar. They were low enough to see him with the naked eye, but Corin stared at the image on the computer screen. Marcus watched Zeb enter a building, then he took the craft a little higher and hovered. “Maybe that’s where he lives now. That street has the only dwelling blocks on it in the whole sector. The rest of the buildings are commercial.”

Corin leaned back in his seat. He slid his hand across and held Marcus’s free hand. “Maybe.”

Marcus put the craft on autopilot and leaned to Corin. He kissed Corin gently on the mouth. “You’re worried. Don’t be. We’ll figure this out, my love.”

Corin loosed his hand and Marcus drew away. He took back control of the craft and they completed the mission in silence, crisscrossing Sector Six until they’d scanned the whole area and the data sent to operations.

Irene opened her eyes and rolled her neck. A stab of pain struck her throat. She sat up and pushed her hair back. Her fingers hit her glasses. She pulled them off and found they had been fixed. “What the hell?”

Glancing around, she discovered she’d woken up in a room not her own. Dark blue walls were hung with pictures of the ocean and cliffside vistas. One was so huge it made it seem like she looked out a window. And yet she couldn’t find any windows. A bed large enough to sleep four people took up most of the room. What the fuck happened? She took off her glasses and inspected them to make sure they were hers. She ran her hands over the wall, looking for any crack that could be a door. After going over the whole room, she knocked on the walls to hear if any were hollow. With nothing but hurting knuckles, she slammed her fist on a bare spot on the wall.

“Let me out of here,” she screamed.

“Enough with the yelling. I have a headache as it is,” a male voice came over a speaker.

“Who are you and what are you going to do with me?” Irene scanned the room looking for a speaker.

Something clicked and a portion of the wall popped out. Someone hovered in the hallway. “Come on. We have a few things to discuss before you can go.” She recognized Ace’s voice.

Irene followed the rocker. Posters of old concerts from Buddy Holly, Jimmy Hendrix, The Doors, Madonna, all from different eras of music and mixed with framed golden records lined the hallway. As she ran after him, all she could stare at was his ass in those leather pants. “Mr. Hendrix, how did I end up here?”

He turned down the hall and Irene rushed to catch up with him. He turned another corner. She found him as he grabbed a bottle of water from a fridge that blended in with the cabinets around it. He flung himself down onto a sofa and gestured for her to take a seat across from him.

Irene sank down into the couch. Records, CDs, cassette tapes, anything music-related lined the bookshelves around the room. “You have quite a music collection.”

His gaze roamed around the room and a slight smile came on his face. “Thanks. I’ve been collecting for a long time. Music’s always been my escape. Would you like some water?”

“Sure. Thanks.”

He tossed the bottle of water at her. It hit the back of the couch next to her and bounced onto the seat. “Sorry. Like I said I’m getting over the hangover from last night.”

“About last night. How did I get here? Back at your house? Where’s my friend?”

“What’s the last thing you remember?”

She squeezed the bridge of her nose, trying to recall what happened. Her head pounded as she tried to draw forth the memories after she waited in line with Bev for Ace. “My glasses got knocked off and trampled. You picked them up and your assistant gave me and Bev backstage passes.” A spear of pain sliced her temple. She tried to pull up more. It remained out of her reach. “I don’t know.” She ran her fingers over her jeans as a thought passed through her head. “We didn’t… ahh…”

“Fuck?” he asked.

Her cheeks burned at his language. “Yeah.”

“No, we didn’t. After you wandered into my dressing room, you fainted. Nicole, my assistant, brought in my doctor. He said you’d passed out from having too much to drink. I thought it best to have you brought back here to sleep it off where no one’d bother you. We put you in the guestroom to sleep it off. I can have my car take you wherever you need to go.”

Irene sipped the water and thought back to being with Bev before the show. “I didn’t have anything to drink.”

“You sure? Maybe your friend slipped you something. It’d account for you thinking your glasses were broken.”

“They were. You picked them up for me.”

“You stumbled and dropped them right in front of me, but they weren’t broken.”

Nothing of what he said made any sense to her. Irene tried to rack her mind at what happened the night before. The ache hit her temple again. She winced. “No… I…”

“Look, you’re awake. You seem fine to me. Now, I have a life to get back to. It was very nice to meet you. I’ll have my driver take you home. Come on.”

Ace got up and walked out of the room. Irene sat trying to make sense of what he’d said. This doesn’t sound right. If I passed out, then Bev would’ve wormed her way into coming with me, playing at being nursemaid. She squeezed her eyes shut and recalled clearly her glasses had been broken. They went backstage with Nicole, and then she had tried to find the restroom. And then… she walked into Ace’s dressing room, but he was…

“What the hell was he doing?” Irene whispered.

The Infiltrator by K.A. Raines #DystopianRomance @KA_Raines

Title: The Infiltrator

Author: K. A. Raines

Genre/heat rating: Dystopian romance/4

M/F

A virus has rendered humanity mostly extinct. Keira Starr is alone, staying alive by staying on the run, sleeping in empty gas stations and the trunks of cars long abandoned on the highway. The world is overrun by “Ghosts,” the mindless, bloodthirsty dead, but they are the least of her problems. She is being hunted by ragtag groups of ruthless men, independent contractors working for a mysterious human trafficking ring. When she is finally captured, she discovers that Derrick Caine, despite his gruff demeanor and appearance, may just have a different agenda altogether.

Excerpt:

“What happened to you?” she breathed. “Who did you lose?” She knew she was pushing him, that she should stop before she went too far, but it felt like observing a train wreck, watching from a distance as the engine rushed ahead at full steam, and, even foreseeing the impending disaster on the tracks, being powerless to stop it. “You risk your life tryin’ to save women and children. Who was she? Your wife?” She didn’t even know why she cared. She didn’t want to care. Derrick Caine was a virtual stranger to her, yet she knew she was already in way too deep.

He growled suddenly, a low, guttural sound that jarred her out of her trance when she rather unexpectedly found her space invaded by him for the third time in the past several minutes. Yet the charge in the air had shifted subtly; he no longer seemed angry, exactly, but there was something decidedly predatory in his eyes.

“You want from me?” His voice in her ear was a dangerous rumble that elicited chills up her spine and ignited a fire that bloomed hotly in her womb, a delicious contrast. Quite suddenly, all she wanted was to relieve the dull throb between her legs that his voice and presence evoked; she wanted him so badly that she physically couldn’t endure not to have him soon.

You. Just you. “I could ask the same of you,” she settled for, and she couldn’t stop the tremor in her voice. She was overwhelmed by him—by his nearness, by the heat emanating from his body, drawing her in. She tentatively raised a trembling hand, reaching up to touch a raised scar on his chest, just above his left pectoral. His chest continued to visibly rise and fall, and he was breathing hard through his nose in an obvious effort to calm himself, fists clenched in tight balls at his sides. His breathing hitched when she barely touched him, a feather-light caress, her fingertips just skimming the jagged edge of his scar. She had known all along that he was in pain. So much unbearable pain—yet he would never admit it to anyone, least of all her.

My Review:

3-stars

Aliens and shifters – two of my favorite things!

I always enjoy a good sci-fi/fantasy romance, and when they combine both shifters and aliens, I can’t wait to read them. I enjoyed the setting of Wooing Winter, and the idea of a secret lab trying to create shifters certainly kept me entertained. The way those in captivity bonded with one another and did what they could to save the kids proved that there is hope no matter how dark your life may become.

Geno and his sons were certainly interesting. A combination of boyish charm and old-world manners in a mouthwatering package. Who wouldn’t want a guy like that to fall for them? Geno’s unwavering devotion to his first mate, and later to Wynter after he accepts he’s been given a second chance at happiness, makes him a swoon-worthy hero. He’s protective, considerate, and has enough love not only for his biological kids but for any others who need a home. A great mix of alpha and sweet.

I struggled to like Wynter’s character as much as I did Geno. While I understand she came from a life of abuse, and not everyone heals the same way, at times it felt like the author was too focused on Wynter’s disbelief anyone could want her because she wore a size eighteen. I get it. I do. Some women struggle to accept they can be beautiful even if they aren’t a size six, and after her husband had done his level best to tear her down, it’s no wonder she didn’t have much self-esteem. It just felt like that part was pushed a little too hard and at times made it feel like that was the main focus of the story instead of the romance between Wynter and Geno, or even trying to find out more about the secret lab. It detracted from the story a bit and left me frustrated at times. It also made her seem weak, which was far from true. She escaped a secret lab, cared for two young shifters who weren’t her biological family, and did what she could to send help for those left behind. A weak woman wouldn’t have done those things. She’d have given up.

The secondary characters, including a sentient computer and an altered shifter named Gregor, were delightful. I’m honestly hoping we get to find out more about the shifters from the lab, and what “Dana” will do now that she doesn’t feel like she’s just a computer. The description of Geno’s shifter form was excellent and makes me wish for a blue striped alien tiger of my own. The story lures you in with action in the beginning then a slow build of romance but be prepared for the sparks to fly once Wynter stops fighting her attraction to Geno.

If you’re looking for a romance with a plus-sized heroine who struggles to accept herself for who she is, a hero who has all the patience in the world when it comes to his one and only, and a rag-tag team of characters determined to seek justice, Wooing Wynter would be a good addition to your TBR pile.

BOOK REVIEW: When She Dances (Risdaverse) by Ruby Dixon #SciFiRomance #bookreview

I never expected to spend my days as a dancing girl… but it beats the alternative. In the window of a filthy space station cantina, I gyrate my hips and hope for better days.

He’s terrifying to look at, with a metal jaw and a fearsome demeanor. He intimidates everyone in the galaxy… except me.

Zakoar doesn’t want my name. In fact, he doesn’t want anything from me…except a little bed sport. In exchange for my willingness, he’ll take me to a human-friendly planet where I can live unafraid.

Love isn’t part of the bargain, but every moment that I spend with him, I learn more about the male beneath the metal…

…and I’m suddenly dreaming of a very different happy ever after for myself…

My Review:

5 – stars !

Another amazing addition in the Risdaverse series!

In fact, this is now my #1 favorite Ruby Dixon story!

A battle hardened, scarred hero who thinks he’s too scary and hideous to be loved.

A slave who dreams of freedom and a hero to save her.

Add in steamy sex, two characters who are too afraid to admit they love one another, and you get a page-turning story guaranteed to make you smile.

Tessa may be a slave, but she’s still strong and determined to survive. Zakoar has watched her for a while, intrigued by the female who doesn’t cringe at his appearance. So what happens when Tessa goes up for auction? Our hero saves the day — even if he does tell himself it’s for his own selfish reasons.

Fabulous! Couldn’t get enough, and I may very re-read this one today. Loved every second of it!

MY REVIEW

5-stars!

First, let me say that I have loved every book in this series! If you like cyborgs AND romantic comedy, this series is a must-read!

Testing Truth has all the elements you would expect from a book in this series. Comedy, action, romance, and a very strong hero and heroine who complement each other in every way.

With Truth, his princess gets to learn not only that she’s permitted to be happy but her subjects will adore her just as she is. For Princess Nancy, it’s a revelation, even though she gets there rather slowly. Having responsibility drummed into her from birth, it’s not easy for her to think of her own wants and desires over those of her people. I loved seeing the way she interacted with her advisors and how their relationship evolved throughout the book.

I laughed SO much with this story! Even the battle scenes had a dose of humor to them, and some of the love scenes as well. Once I started reading, I just couldn’t stop! I can’t wait to see what happens next in this awesomely amazing series.

BOOK REVIEW: Mari’s Mistake by Ruby Dixon #SciFiRomance #KindleUnlimited

About the Book

I’ve ruined everything.

I had a mate. Resonance. Happiness. But then T’chai’s attacked by ravenous sky-claw and almost killed. To help him recover, I tell the healer to turn off our unfulfilled resonance. It’s temporary…or so I think.

Big mistake. Because now my khui acts like it’s dead and it hates T’chai. But I still love him. How do we move forward when I can’t bear his touch? Is there a way to get back our happiness together, or is it time to give up on what we once had?

T’chai has other plans, though. He’s not giving up on us. If it means crossing the world, he’s ready to do it at my side.

MY REVIEW

5 – stars!

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series, even though I got a little behind in my reading. Mari’s Mistake was a bit different from the others. In an awesome way. I loved seeing the struggle between Mari and T’chai. Not because I enjoyed their pain, but because it made them different. I don’t want to say too much and give away the bigger parts of the story, but Mari and T’chai had to work hard to stay together. They were willing to do whatever it took to make their relationship work. And yes, it still has all the hot sex you’ll find in the other Icehome books! Mari’s Mistake is probably my favorite in the series (until I fall in love with the next one).
