[Siren Classic ManLove: Erotic Alternative Contemporary Paranormal Romance, shape-shifter, M/M, HEA]

When Quinn Hart’s best friend died, he became guardian to the man’s ten-year- old son, Noah Stone. So far, Quinn has been able to conceal the growing attraction he feels for Noah, but now Noah is twenty-two and returning home from college. Honor still holds Quinn back from revealing his true feelings. Their community of bear shifters consider reproduction a priority, and Quinn fears they would never accept a homosexual relationship.

Noah has always hidden his romantic feelings for his guardian, but now he’s a man, and his desire is stronger than ever. Unable to handle his feelings, Noah leaves Oregon for a position in a research facility. But when Noah arrives in New York, he discovers his employer is harvesting bear bile and he’s the new source.

Quinn is determined to find Noah. But can he admit what he really wants before it’s too late?

Excerpt

Home. Noah had forgotten how much he missed the endless expanse of lush green landscape and the sparkling river. And the trees. Especially the trees. When the leaves whispered in the wind, it made Noah’s heart ache. Whoever had named their small town knew that trees were sanctuaries.

But for all that, home wasn’t a place, it was a person—Quinn. Noah could live anywhere with Quinn. But a life with Quinn was as likely as a sharknado ripping through Sanctuary.

Noah moved away from the window and gazed at his reflection. The mirror was wall mounted and speckled in places. The frame matched the wood dresser beneath it. A handknitted brown and tan spread covered the crude pine bed. The room had been decorated on a meager budget, but it was warm and comforting because Quinn had handcrafted all the furniture himself.

Noah’s bedroom hadn’t changed since he was a kid. Yesterday, when he’d first stepped through the door, he’d felt the walls close in on him. As a kid, this room seemed huge, but now that he was a man, he could see how small it really was. It felt surreal like turning back the clock, but not in a bad way. If only he could—

“Where’s the man of the hour?”

The sound of loud voices traveled up the stairs. More guests had arrived for the party. The community was small, but when everyone attended an event, it could be overwhelming. Noah checked his image in the mirror again. He’d already changed shirts several times, and he still wasn’t sure that he liked the blue chambray shirt he’d put on with his khakis. Why am I making such a big deal out of this? He felt like Marcus primping for one of those stupid frat parties. What difference did it make what color shirt he wore? Stop stalling, he told himself. You can’t stay in your room forever.

Noah stood at the top of the stairs. Below, friends and neighbors were chatting excitedly. Noah had nothing to say to them. He would disappoint them. Anxiety made his stomach churn.

Love_cover

Robbie Sexton is heading home to north Alabama for his father’s funeral. In Baltimore, he could be himself, but in Athens, Alabama, he figures he’ll be back in the proverbial closet. The only one who knows he’s even gay is his cousin Danny. Of course, that’s when life decides to throw him a curveball. Thanks to a bit of matchmaking on Danny’s part, Robbie meets Seth Ellis, one of the newest ranch hands on his uncle’s farm. Before long, he realizes maybe heading home wasn’t such a bad idea.

Over several months, Robbie’s life winds up in a bit of a whirlwind. Between becoming an uncle himself, dealing with his bigoted brother, and trying to start over in the tattoo business, he has his hands full. But there remains one constant in his life: Seth.

ADULT EXCERPT:

“Wow. Very nice. You an artist?”

The sexy drawl pulled Robbie’s attention from the sketchbook on his lap to the tall, tanned body standing in front of him. If he looked straight ahead, his line of sight was dead level with the man’s crotch. Even through a layer of faded denim, it was obvious the man had plenty to offer. Gaze continuing upward, Robbie drank in the sweat-slick skin, stretched taut over chiseled muscles and tanned to soft gold. A light dusting of pale brown hair—bleached gold by the sun—began at the man’s chest and drew a path down his sun-kissed torso, only to disappear beneath his jeans.

His shoulders were broad, and the sleeves of his open blue plaid shirt were rolled up, tight around hard biceps. A black cowboy hat sat on his head, cocked forward just enough to hide his face. Then the man tipped the hat back, taking Robbie’s breath away. Eyes greener than the new spring grass reflected the man’s easy smile. The slightest hint of a five o’clock shadow gave him a ruggedly sexy look. Not that he needed the help.

“Name’s Seth Ellis,” the sun god said, extending a hand downward.

Regaining his composure, Robbie stood and brushed the grass off of his right hand before shaking Seth’s. “Robbie Sexton.”

“I’m really sorry about your dad.”

“Thanks,” Robbie said. As Seth released his hand, Robbie noticed it was done with a bit of hesitation. Now that was promising. “I’m gonna grab a beer. You wanna join me?”

“Sure.”

Robbie snuck around the porch and into the front yard, snagging two beer bottles from one of the big coolers and making it away without being seen. Hell, yes! The day was looking up! He returned to Seth and handed him one of the bottles.

“Follow me,” he said. “I know some of the best places around here where a man can find some peace.”

“Of what?” Seth chuckled before taking a long drink.

Robbie glanced over at him. “If the right person’s offering…” He left the rest unsaid, waiting to see if Seth took the bait.

A smile played across Seth’s lips just before they oh-so-slowly wrapped around the mouth of the beer bottle. “So,” Seth said after his sip, “is he offering?” He flashed Robbie a wicked grin from behind the bottle, followed by a quick wink.

Robbie’s throat went dry as cotton as he stared at Seth, or rather Seth’s tongue as it did obscene things to the beer bottle. What the hell had Danny been telling the man?

Clearing his throat, Robbie remembered how to do something other than stare. “I’m guessing you’ve spoken to my cousin Danny.”

Seth grinned. “You could say that.”

Robbie licked his lips. If anything, life wouldn’t be boring here now. “This way,” he said quickly. He forced himself to walk when he wanted to run.

Just as they rounded the corner of the combine barn, a strong hand gripped his arm. Within seconds, Robbie was captive, body caught between the hard metal building and an equally hard cowboy. Hips rocking, Seth ground against him, tongue pushing into Robbie’s mouth without any hesitation. The cowboy tasted like beer and sun and male, blazing hot, breath almost scorching as the kiss moved from Robbie’s mouth to his throat.

“Oh, fuck,” Robbie breathed. His head swam as long fingers found the button of his jeans, popping them open. Then those fingers were inside, slipping into his underwear, tips brushing the head of his prick. Robbie gasped and held on, arms draped over Seth’s shoulders.

“So hot,” Seth murmured, moving back up to take Robbie’s mouth in another searing kiss.

God, this man was unbelievable.

Review

I admit, the dog on the cover caught my attention first — who could resist that sweet face? — but I absolutely fell in love with the characters in this story. Evan has been through so much, and has closed himself off emotionally, expecting the worst of anyone who wants to get closer. And Casey was so full of hope, and eager to give Evan anything he wanted or needed. In some ways, Casey was like an overexcited puppy, experiencing love for the first time, eager to experiment. I thought their romance was sweet, and that they were perfectly matched. The sex scenes were hot and well written, and you could feel the chemistry between the characters. If you’re in the mood for a quick, hot, gay romance, this book is for you!

Review

It’s been a while since I read a pirate romance, and I loved the twist at the end about who Aristad truly was. It’s no secret from the beginning that he’s something different, but I wasn’t quite certain what. I was pleasantly surprised. Kraken was both powerful and endearing, and I fell in love with him quite easily. I was so glad they had a happily-ever-after. The story was well-written, and the descriptive writing was beautiful. Overall, I really enjoyed the story. The author pulled me in from the first page, and I couldn’t stop reading until the very end. Excellent job, Ms. Ishii!

EXCERPT

Casey was tall. That was the first word everyone would come up with if they had to describe him. He’d always had a head of advantage over everyone else around him, from middle school and right up to his college days as a basketball player.

The second word would be shy. Casey was well liked, but maybe because of his height and general body size, Casey went out of his way to make himself small and unnoticeable, invisible almost, and for a six foot five, strapping guy like him it wasn’t that easy. But he succeeded quite spectacularly.

And to be honest, in the hustle and bustle of San Francisco, if you didn’t want to be seen, people wouldn’t look twice. There was too much else to engage with to pay attention to a former college basketball player turned social services major, and Casey liked it exactly like that.

Casey looked out of the tiny window of the one room, open space office he shared with Sandra, a half Black, half Puerto Rican Tasmanian devil turned accountant, and edged against the wall to throw the window open. Spring was upon them, and San Francisco was a blur of colors so bright it made your eyes sting.

Casey smiled and looked back at his computer screen, adjusting his headset, and getting back to that damned report that had kept him up most of the weekend. Not that Casey had anything else to do that weekend, but that was beside the point.

The phone rang, and Casey pushed a button automatically as he typed away. “LGTB Support Center, I’m Casey. How may I help you?”

“How much for a blowjob?”

The line was delivered amongst crass laughter, and Casey punched the off button a little too viciously, sending the phone base skidding across his meager desk, pens and papers tumbling in a flurry to the floor.

“I think we just tossed a stupendous amount of money down the toilet with that stupid ad campaign,” he said to the room at large, which consisted of him and Sandra’s empty desk. There were two volunteers who usually manned the reception desk, but it was finals time for every other kid in San Francisco, and the LGTB Support Center was seriously understaffed.

Which was the nice way to say that after the last cut the state had done for humanitarian work, the center could barely keep afloat with Casey, Sandra and Leo, Casey’s out and proud bisexual roommate, who was widely recognized as the biggest manwhore of San Francisco. The way things were, it was a miracle they even managed to keep the books in what resembled order, and Casey suspected it had a lot to do with Sandra’s creative accounting.

Casey could almost hear his parents’ disapproving sighs, even if they were miles away, all the way in Sacramento. They never really minded that Casey was gay, as long as he kept up his appearances and continued his career as a college basketball star. But when Casey had called them to tell them he was switching majors, his mom had cried for a week, and his father had refused to pay his tuition.

That was when Casey left the dorms to move in with Leo. Leo was the single most obnoxious person in the world, and Casey threatened to kill him on a regular basis — with more conviction behind the threat once Casey picked up his first shift at the center. One year later, he graduated with honors with his thesis in Social Services and Support in the Gay Community.

His parents missed their flight and never made it to San Francisco for his graduation. It really didn’t take Casey’s special sensitivity to read between the lines. They still called, though, mostly to remind him what a disappointment he was, but Casey had no regrets. He knew when he switched majors that he was never going to be the one whose name was written up in lights. He wasn’t tall enough, for one, despite “normal” people always having to look up when they spoke to him. And he simply wasn’t good enough. He was tired of warming a bench while his life swept by him. Once he managed to pull free from his parents’ overblown expectations, Casey had found that he liked working with other underdogs like him. The LGTB center was tiny, cramped and cluttered, but it felt more like home to him than the changing rooms had ever done.

Casey had a love/hate relationship with his job (bordering on hate during the unexpected weekends he’d get called in, or the Monday mornings when the stapler didn’t work or the printer got stuck), but Casey wouldn’t trade it for the world.

The Center was the first place where he felt like he belonged. Where no one treated him like a circus show. Where his “intuition,” as he dubbed it, earned him smiles and hugs and freshly baked cookies rather than scorn, bullying. Or a chorus of “freak.”

The phone rang again, and this time Casey closed his eyes, hands splayed wide on the desk. He let himself feel. It was hot outside. Too hot. A girl, crying. Blood.

Casey picked up the phone. “LGTB Support Center, I’m Casey, how may I help you?”

Heavy breathing at the other end. Casey cringed. He closed his eyes again, trying to reach out, letting his sense flood him, nearly making him dizzy.

“It’s okay,” he said, his voice different this time, slow and secure. “Nothing will harm you now.” He saw the back of an alley, a wrought iron lamp post sticking out under an open window. Casey knew the place, it was near the Fountainhead pub, down on the west end. “Hang in there, sweetie, I’m sending someone over to get you, okay?”

“I don’t want no cops.”

Excerpt

Aaron growled. “Maybe I’ve gotten better at lying now. I’m way more secretive than I was when you knew me. Everyone thought I was dead. I left the day of the explosion with nothing but our emergency pack. No one knew I was here living my life until recently.”

“I’ve always known where you were,” Marshall answered honestly. “You took the identity I’d had created for you, so I knew where to find you from the moment you left.”

“Then why the hell didn’t you come to me sooner?” Aaron asked in a small voice.

Marshall reached out, wanting to touch him, to ease his pain, but stopped short when Aaron flinched away from him. Not that he could blame him for the reaction at all.

“Franklin is powerful and determined to make the damn Senate. If he had known you were alive earlier, he would have killed you just to tidy up that loose end. He couldn’t have his own son coming out and telling the world what an asshole he is. Aaron, even when I knew I shouldn’t, I kept up with what you were doing. I’ve fucking stalked you from afar for years. What existed between us was real.”

Aaron’s gaze swung to him. “Really? Because I loved you with everything I had and losing you destroyed who I was. Flames were lifting into the air, and gas bottles were exploding and all I could think about was walking straight into that burning building so that I could go with you.”

Marshall’s heart broke at that. “Baby. I am so sorry I had to put you through that. But I had to get you away from Franklin and I knew you wouldn’t go without me. Franklin wasn’t going to let me go, Aaron. I was an asset he had no desire to lose. If we had run together, he would have come after us with everything he had. I knew that the only reason you would go by yourself is if you thought I was dead.”

Aaron frowned. “Why couldn’t we have just left together? If he was convinced that I died in that fire, why wouldn’t he accept it was both of us? Damn it, Marshall I managed to leave that day and no one came looking for me for seven years! I started a new life and fought for a chance to live it. Why couldn’t we have done that together?”

Marshall took a deep breath. He’d known this conversation had to happen, but he hadn’t expected it to be so soon. “He was going to take you away that night, Marshall. He was going to take you from me and use you to control me. Every option I looked at to save you resulted in you being hurt or killed. I was too young, I had very little experience with everything, and I panicked. Making it look like the explosion killed you was the only option I came up with that got you away from him.”

“Why the hell did you stay?” He could hear anger in Aaron’s voice. “You could have gotten away from him at any time.”

Self-loathing threatened to drown him. “I had to make sure you remained safe. And without you, I just stopped caring about anything else. Your father claimed your life insurance, had a funeral, and publically mourned your death. And I did it all with a happy heart because I knew that you were alive and that you were free.”

“But what about you, Marshall,” Aaron asked quietly, “weren’t you worth saving, too?”

Marshall turned to look out at the road ahead. “I may have been then, but everything I have done since, what your father has turned me into, all of it makes me beyond salvation now.

Aaron made a dismissive sound. “That’s bullshit. No one is so far gone that they can’t be saved, either from my father or themselves. You’ve already said that a lot of what you have had to do over the years was at the bequest of Franklin George. It sounds to me that the fault lies with him, not you.”

“But it was me pulling the trigger all those years, Aaron, and not always at Franklin’s request,” Marshall answered, turning to give him a sad look. “It’s me that took money from your father and others to kill the people they most needed eliminated from their lives. And it’s me who has to somehow reconcile everything that I have done since I left you seven years ago so that I can sleep at night,” Marshall took a moment trying to find the words that would explain it. “You could say this is about vengeance with a strong dose of penance for me and that would be a lot closer to the truth, but it would certainly not grant me absolution.”

Jared huddled under the covers until the smell of coffee drew him out of bed. First stop, the bathroom. He glanced in the mirror, and did a double take. What the fuck! Gripping the small sink, he leaned in for a closer look. Teeth marks.

Suddenly, a naked Ray appeared behind him, and strong muscular arms circled Jared. “Do you want coffee or a blowjob?” Ray stroked Jared’s flaccid penis back to life.

Jared melted back against him. “I want to get fucked.” Then he remembered. “You bit me.”

Ray inspected his handiwork. “So? You know you like it rough. You were so fucking hot, you didn’t even feel it.”

“You broke the skin.”

“Don’t be a wuss. I had my rabies shot.”

“Very funny.”

Ray kissed the mark. “It’s a love bite. Means you’re mine. Forever.”

Jared sighed. “I don’t need a mark to remind me. I love you.”

“Love you, too. Come back to bed and I’ll prove it.”

Excerpt

There was no sound of footfalls or breathing, though something deep inside me told me that we were not alone down in that cellar. Even with Atlantis gone, the old gifts of my homeland told me: there was another mind out there.

“Stay here,” I commanded.

I rounded the next corner. No one followed this time. In the dim light, I stared directly at a rotted wooden door. I hesitated. It may have been a prison but whomever or whatever had been there escaped long ago.

I took several cautious steps toward the door and pushed it open.

I held my breath.

There wasn’t much to see at first, just a stone floor was covered in straw. No grisly remains. No stench of death. No splattered blood.

I let out a breath.

This room was no prison but something dwelled here. I felt the tingling in my bones.

I swung the lamp around to glance at all corners.

There they were… two large trunks pushed against the wall.

Delacroix shoved past me and stood in the middle of the room. He took one look at the treasure chests and his eyes went wide.

“Damn! It’s all ours,” he said with glee.

“Wait,” I told him.

Delacroix turned to me.

“There’s a fortune in front of us,” he hissed at me.

“Exactly. Two trunks filled with treasure just sitting there,” I said.

I turned to the others who’d joined us in the room. They all stared wide-eyed, greed written across their faces.

“Before you touch it, ask yourselves why unguarded treasure has stayed here all this time?”

That made them stop. Pirates are a suspicious lot. We all knew that gold didn’t sit there for the taking unless there was a price to be paid.

“I’d listen to your captain if I were you,” came a deep, dark voice out of the shadows.

SPOTLIGHT: Composing a Family by Sean Michael #LGBT #romancebooks

composingafamily510

The sixth book in the Mannies Incorporated series, Composing a Family was a blast to write. I had a good handle on Tenor right from the start, but I kind of learned about Daniel as Tenor did and it was a wonderful journey.

Composing a Family Blurb:

Tenor Abriole has just finished his stint as nanny for the Wilsons. He was with the family for twenty-one years, ever since he was eighteen. Now he’s looking for a new family, but finding that at thirty-nine, many people think he’s too old, and those who don’t think that’s a problem are balking at the fact that he’s a man, or that he’s gay, or both. He finally turns to Mannies Inc. for help finding a new position.

Daniel Thorpe is a well-known composer who lives and breathes music. He very much wants to be a father, so he goes the surrogate route, and winds up with triplets on the way. He turns to Mannies Inc. well before his girls are born, but so far has not been happy with any of the men who have applied, until Tenor shows up for an interview. Tenor’s experience being nanny to five children, as well as the fact that he stayed with a single family that long are both pluses in Daniel’s book.

Could it be that Tenor is the last note Daniel needs to compose his greatest work yet – his family?

Excerpt

Daniel woke up falling to the floor with a gasp, confused and lost. What the fuck?

Was he in a hotel?

Was he travelling?

The door burst open, a disheveled Tenor appearing, wearing nothing more than a pair of boxers riding low on his hips. “What? Daniel? Hey, are you okay, man?”

“I—” He blinked. “Where am I?”

“In my sitting room. You fell asleep and I didn’t have the heart to wake you up. Looks like you fell off the love seat. Are you okay?” Tenor bent, hands moving on him.

“Sorry. Sorry, I’m fine. I just… was confused.”

“And you fell. That’s never pleasant.” Tenor got an arm around him and helped him up.

He was propped up against Tenor. And that was a lot of skin. Warm skin.

“I just fell asleep? Just boom?”

“Yeah. I guess you really meant it when you said it was past your bedtime, eh?” Tenor gave him a wry grin.

And he was still leaning against the warm muscles. “I’m sorry. How embarrassing.”

Tenor chuckled. “Don’t be embarrassed—I’ve had much worse done to me.”

“I just… wow. I must trust you.” He winked, trying to keep it light.

“That’s good because I’m going to be taking care of your babies. And by extension, you.”

“Yes. And I guess I’ll be taking care of you.”

Delight filled Tenor’s face. “Nobody’s taken care of me for a very long time.”

“That only seems fair.” They were going to be family, right?

“Well, I like it.” Tenor glanced over at the clock on the cable box. “It looks like the perfect time for a midnight snack. You want cookies and hot cocoa?”

He blinked. Seriously? People did that? “Why not?”

“Good answer—I happen to be a cookies and hot cocoa expert.”

“I will have to learn all about it.”

“You definitely should—they’re a great conversation opener with kids.”

“Aren’t they supposed to be asleep at this time of night?”

“Yeah, but if they’re not, it’s either because of bad dreams or something is bothering them. And the hot milk helps get them sleepy again and feels safe and comforting and helps them talk about what’s bothering them.”

“Yeah. I can get that, I think.”

They headed downstairs into the kitchen, the lights on low.

Tenor moved efficiently, filling two mugs with milk, then pouring the liquid into a saucepan and putting the heat on low. Then he grabbed some cocoa and brown sugar and a little bit of water, putting it all together in a little saucepan and putting that on the heat, too. “You want to find some cookies? There’s a couple of the chocolate chip left, and I made oatmeal ones this morning.”

“With raisins?” He loved raisins.

“It’s not oatmeal cookies if there aren’t any raisins.” Tenor laughed softly and pointed to a cookie jar shaped like a giant chocolate chip cookie that he’d never seen before.

“That’s a cookie jar.” How cool.

“Yeah, and it’s a thick plastic that won’t break if it gets pulled down off the counter.”

“I like it.” It was a bright splash, something… new.
