Step Into the Twisted Tales of K.T. George, Debut Psychological Thriller Author Hello there! 👋 I’m K.T. George, and I’m excited to announce the release of my debut novel, Conjoined, set to launch on June 4th through BookBaby. But here’s a thrilling twist—order directly from BookBaby today, and you might just snag the paperback ahead of its official release! It’s a surprising scoop even I didn’t see coming! 🤩 A Journey Through Imagination From a young age, I’ve been captivated by storytelling. Whether it was sharing adventures with my collection of stuffed animals and dolls or crafting elaborate tales for strangers, my imagination was always in overdrive. This passion didn’t wane as I grew; it only evolved. Throughout my education, from spirited book reports to a notably entertaining yet intricate paper on Abstract Algebra in college (Yes, it’s a real thing!), I reveled in the art of writing. Despite a grading hiccup for not citing sources correctly—I excelled in delivering engaging narratives. From Code to Prose My professional journey began in the world of Computer Science, where I found programming to be a surprisingly creative outlet. I leveraged this creativity further when I transitioned to writing detailed reports and developing animated PowerPoint presentations in a corporate setting. Eventually, I ventured out to start my own consulting business which, after a move from the Desert Southwest to the Midwest, transformed drastically. This pivot was crucial; it led me to embrace my creative side fully, resulting in guest blogging for tech, law, and medical professionals. The Birth of “Conjoined” The leap from ghostwriting for clients to penning my own novel was immense. Creating Conjoined was a labor of love and perseverance, entailing seven years from concept to publication. This psychological thriller explores the depths of human psychology and the dark, intertwining paths of fate. Dive Deeper Curious about the mind behind the madness? Visit my interview-style blog post on ktgeorge.com/interview-ktg/ to get an inside look at my creative process, influences, and the quirky journey of a computer scientist turned author. Stay and explore to learn more about Conjoined and the intricate, shadowy realms of psychological thrillers with me. Whether you are a seasoned reader of the genre or a newcomer, prepare to be entangled in the complex threads of an unsettling narrative that will challenge your perceptions and thrill your senses. Final Thoughts Conjoined took years of hard work, learning, and personal growth to reach its current heights. The journey has been full of ups and downs, but every moment was worth it for the chance to share this story with you. I invite you to delve into the pages of my book, join me in unraveling the mysteries, and keep the flame of curiosity alive. I’m thrilled to embark on this adventure with you. Until then, keep the pages turning and the mysteries brewing.

BOOK TOUR & GIVEAWAY: Escape Routes by Marsh Rose

It’s 1985 and pampered psychotherapist Lauren Olive loses her job, the love of her life to his hairdresser and is forced to move to a backwoods bungalow as a drug couselor in a rural jail.

Escape Routes

by Marsh Rose

Genre: Historical Women’s Fiction

It’s 1985 and psychotherapist Lauren Olive, a pampered Baby Boomer in the California wine country, has never owned a bank account, lived without a man, or seen the dark side of life. But after she loses her job, and then the love of her life abandons her for his hairdresser, she’s forced to move to a decrepit bungalow in the backwoods and accept work as a drug counselor in a rural jail.

At her new job, the inmates view her wide-eyed naivete with hilarity and her hardened coworkers resent her middle-class roots. Worse, the bungalow seems poised to collapse around her. If Lauren is going to survive financially, avoid going back to live with her parents, and regain normality, she’ll need to leave her little-girl ways behind. But success doesn’t come without struggle. Surrounded by her crusty landlord, the jail’s seasoned deputies, skeptical inmates and a new love interest, Lauren must confront challenges she never could have imagined in her comfortable city life.
Escape Routes is a tale of maturity under duress. It speaks to the emerging audience of readers who want stories of growth and accomplishment by strong women in compelling situations. Although it is a work of fiction, it offers a glimpse into rural American criminal justice during the 1980s, a time when addiction treatment for inmates was in its formative years. Its narrative captures genuine lifestyles, concerns, speech, and behavior without demonizing, demeaning, or glamorizing the characters on either side of the bars.

Sunday, April 7, 1985:  “He gives you an allowance?  That’s reckless.”   — My friend Bridget I would have never grown up if the love of my life hadn’t left me for his hairdresser.  In fact, there were a lot of things I never would have done: fixed a toilet, slept with a motorcycle racer, been arrested, learned to cook, bought a house or made peace with my parents. I was always puzzled about what to call our relationship.  Today I’d say I was living with my significant other or my domestic partner but we didn’t have those words back then.   “Living with my boyfriend” would have sounded ridiculous given that I was nearly 30 when we met and he was 35. My mom and dad called our arrangement “shacking up” but they said it with a smile.  That was important to me.  While I complained to my friends about my parents’ over-protectiveness, secretly I was never comfortable with a life choice until I knew they approved.  In fact I had been filled with trepidation in my first year with Aaron when I took him back to Philadelphia for Passover to meet them.  Although he was a JFK look-alike and a university professor and a psychologist, I feared they were disappointed in our lifestyle and they’d let it show.  We were, after all, living in sin in San Francisco, that malignant ganglion of sex and drugs.  But they met me at the airport with the usual volley of kisses and cheek-pinches, and at dinner my father accorded Aaron the seat of honor at the head of the Seder table even though Aaron was Irish and bewildered. I had been his teaching assistant in graduate school.  We hooked up the day he found me sobbing in the back row of his classroom, distraught over the end of an affair with a musician I swore would be the next Kris Kristofferson.  Aaron had long legs and a boyish grin and thick chestnut hair that fell disarmingly over one green eye, causing him to constantly flip it back in a graceful pas seul of wrist and neck.  He could have had his pick of arm candy among his worshipful students and admiring colleagues but he chose me, a diminutive, frizzy-haired, myopic daughter of Russian immigrants.   Ten years later we had become one of the rare couples in our generation whose relationship had survived the permissiveness and excesses of the recent past: free sex, open marriages, the whole suppurating end result of The Summer of Love. By the early 1980s, Dr. Aaron Prentice was on a tenure track at the university.  I had survived the rigors of getting my psychotherapist’s license – a master’s degree and a lengthy internship – and was seeing clients at Changing Times, a non-profit counseling agency housed in an old Victorian on a side street in town.  I could have sought a more lucrative position in a psychiatric hospital with its endless chaos and demanding bureaucracy but I chose the lesser-paying quiet ambiance of a small local clinic.  My clients’ issues were typical of our middle-class, middle-aged population.  Loss of a parent, a cheating spouse, a wayward teenager.  No violent paranoid schizophrenics, no one thinking they were Mother Mary.  I enjoyed pleasant relationships with my colleagues and never thought about work on weekends. Aaron and I bought an upscale townhouse in Santa Rosa, a city in the famed Sonoma County wine country north of the Golden Gate Bridge.  There, we lived the lives of established DINKs (Dual Income, No Kids) in the pre-Dot.Com era.  Good wine, good but not excessive food and sophisticated, well-read friends.  On Saturday nights his students dropped by for Merlot and Chardonnay, hors d’oeuvres and energetic debates.  Our décor was a meld of flea market chic, exotic gifts from travelers and carefully collected objets d’arte.  The academic tomes and literary classics on our living room bookcase kept company with ancient Native American artifacts and Austrian blown glass.  Our throw rugs were from the Andes. Aaron did the grocery shopping and cooking.  His mother was a noted chef and cookbook author in Carmel and he was taught from an early age to be masterful in the handling of sauces and herbs.  He told me that some of the most vitriolic arguments he’d had with his wife throughout their disastrous brief marriage were about who controlled the kitchen.  In contrast I had segued from my parents’ house to the college dorm, back to my parents, then a mercifully brief span alone during which time I typically ate a full meal only on dates.  The rest of the time it was take-out standing over the kitchen sink.  By the time Aaron came along I was more accustomed to being fed than to feeding.  I was content to let Aaron take the helm at the stove.  Instead I did the laundry, dishes, and quite a bit of dusting.  All those objets d’arte.  Aaron with his full-time professor’s salary easily assumed responsibility for our bills.  My slim income went toward the little luxuries we both enjoyed; the best coffee, whale-watching at a bed and breakfast overlooking the sea.  I simply handed my paychecks over to Aaron.  If I needed money for some personal luxury – a hand-embroidered blouse from an artist in North Beach, some highlighting in my hair – Aaron gave back what I needed. Bridget, my best friend and former college roommate, was not among the many who envied me.  “You have nothing in your own name?” she said.  “What if he gets hit by a truck?  And he gives you an allowance?  That’s reckless.” But nothing would go wrong.  I was cherished and secure in the arms of a man everyone adored.  I wanted nothing more in life than to go on appreciating the bounty.   That was until Aaron announced he was leaving me for the beautician who did his hair.

Afshaneh spends her life looking over her shoulder, waiting for her grandparents to send someone to take them back. She might have grown up in luxury, but it was a prison. Now she and her mother live a simple life in the eastern slums of Mahariz. She hides her identity and her forbidden magic. But when she takes on a dangerous quest, will her secrets be revealed?
Her close band of friends know she can be reckless and impulsive, so they are not surprised when she agrees to reclaim a lost artefact for a stranger. She could not refuse; he offered enough money to keep her and her mother safe forever.

Should she destroy the artefact – become the heroine everyone believes she can be – and so attract the wrath of an evil mage, or should she claim the reward and risk the return of The Fallen?
Legacy of The Fallen is a thrilling fantasy adventure for fans of Empire of Sand, The City of Brass, and This Woven Kingdom. If you enjoy vivid worlds, complex characters, and tales of reluctant heroines/chosen ones then join Afshaneh on her quest and discover which choice she makes…
AFSHANEH was late. She had allowed herself to be distracted. She hurried her footsteps along the street, ignoring the exhortations from the street vendors to purchase their wares rather than those of their neighbours. She waved at Bahman, who owned the fruit shop and sometimes gave her the squishy fruits he could not easily sell, though perfectly edible. He knew Afshaneh and her mother and had a soft spot for the pair. Afshaneh was not too proud to take handouts from friends. Besides, it would only rot somewhere if she and the others he helped did not accept it. Bahman waved back from where he was re-arranging the produce at the front of his shop. Bahman had been one of the first people to befriend Afshaneh when she and her mother arrived in the city. He had taken pity on her and offered her a job. It was only an hour a day sorting fruit and it did not pay much, but Afshaneh had been grateful. He also gave her fruit and vegetables he said were not good enough to sell. Afshaneh could see nothing wrong with them and suspected he was trying to help her and her mother. It had not taken Afshaneh long to realise that there were children in the city who had nothing. No family, place to sleep, or coin. They risked everything to steal food to survive. Afshaneh gave most of Bahman’s handouts to these children. At least she had a roof over her head, a mother, and some money coming in. Bahman discovered what she was doing, but instead of being angry, he had set up an evening stall where he would give away the slightly battered produce that ‘was not good enough to sell’. Afshaneh helped him run it. She smiled at the memory. She had felt she might burst from pride on the evening the stall opened. Dusk was creeping over the city and ragged children with wide eyes stepped hesitantly towards them – struggling to believe that someone was giving them food. Several of those children now had permanent jobs and always had a warm greeting for Afshaneh. The aromas of spices, meat, vegetables and honey made her stomach growl. It seemed a long time since breakfast, though it had been no more than a couple of hours. It was her own fault for eating nothing but an apple. She hoped Zerin would order her favourite cardamon and rosewater cookies with their tea. She licked her lips in anticipation. Yet if she did not hurry he might eat it all before she arrived! Horses’ hooves clattered on the paving slabs and echoed up the street from behind Afshaneh. “Make way! Make way!” The sharp voice precipitated a rush of bodies to the edges of the road. Afshaneh pushed in beside a bittersweet-orange vendor. She draped her scarf over her head and then chided herself. Who would recognise her? Six black horses pranced along the paved street, their rare coats gleaming as if they had been polished. Five of them were ridden by guards sporting their usual scarlet uniforms, their conical helms flashing in the sunlight, their base’s deep blue cloth matching the lacquered bird of prey on their metal vests. This bird was the symbol of the satrap of Mahariz and all guards displayed it, although its colour depended on the noble house they represented. However, the man in the centre of the guards was different. His clothes were of the finest silk in three shades of blue, encrusted with silver embroidery, and he wore a cream turban with a peacock feather jauntily bobbing at the front. Blue to denote the noble House of Mirza – which was why the guards also had blue in their uniforms. The man’s face was strong but haughty and unlike the guards who sweated in the heat, the noble appeared pristine. He did not spare a glance for the stall holders, merchants, or others that his passage had forced off the road. Afshaneh hid the curl of her lip behind her scarf. Nobles. They were all the same: corrupt, arrogant, and untrustworthy. They cared nothing for the hard-working people they inconvenienced. What did she expect, taking a detour through the Northern District just to view the Almira Gardens near the palace? She should have known better and kept to her own part of the city – the eastern sprawl. Once the noble and his retinue had passed, all the bystanders continued their business as if he had never disturbed their day, used to such interruptions in this section of the city. Luckily, nobles rarely strayed into the narrow alleys or the bazaars of the Eastern District. Afshaneh settled the scarf round her neck and hurried away. After spending a short time with Zerin, she would need to head to work. As she strode eastwards, the paved streets soon faded to hard packed earth. They began to narrow, and the people’s clothing became simpler, less flounces and pleats and a simple sash around the tunics. Though even here, no one skimped on colour. The tunics for men and women and the long dresses for those women who preferred them to tunics were vibrant with greens, pinks, and blues. The increase in noise level emanating from the bazaars told her for certain she was back in the Eastern District, home to the largest portion of Mahariz’s population, though packed into an area no larger than the other three districts.

Route 41, South-West Iceland

13 November 2003, 18:43 hours GMT

The doomed four-by-four plumed thick fountains of spray into the darkness as it crawled along the narrow highway to Keflavík International Airport, its bright beams illuminating a hypnotic kaleidoscope of churning rain. The sight made Sally Moltex nauseous. She tried the side window, but it was mirror black, reflecting the Jeep’s night-lit interior back at her. She closed her eyes, willing the vehicle to move faster as a thrill of excitement surged through her at the memory of what they’d seen that afternoon. Almost immediately, it was replaced by a prickle of fear. Everything screamed hoax: one second, they’d been stood inside the Department of Geothermal Studies, the next, they were in Ethan Rae’s London Town house. They’d gone outside onto a busy Camden Town street thick with traffic. Alone. Ethan had insisted on that. They’d walked to the tube station. Bought a newspaper. Again, Ethan had been insistent. They’d asked someone where they were. And a second person. The third had shouted abuse at Sally; accused her of being an ignorant Yank. Of not knowing that she was in London. James had eventually intervened in his charming British way, calmed the man down, and they’d returned to Ethan’s office. Twenty minutes later, they were back in Reykjavík. Heads spinning at what they’d seen. Hearts beating with what Ethan had given them. ‘Do you think LEAP’s fake?’ she asked her companion. James Reagan didn’t reply straight away. Without taking his eyes off the road, he attempted another call to his producer at News 24/7 in London. Nothing. He was going to miss tomorrow’s deadline if he didn’t get through soon. Seven million Saturday viewers was no disaster, but it was well below his Friday average. ‘Nah,’ he said. ‘Ethan wouldn’t risk it. What would he gain by misleading us?’ ‘That’s what I can’t work out,’ Sally said, tracing her fingers along the cold glass of the passenger window, trying to keep pace with the streaming water. ‘How do you fake what we just saw?’ James said. ‘Besides which, it will do him way more damage if he’s lying.’ Sally wasn’t so sure. She liked James. Had known him for twenty years, but he anchored a light entertainment show for a channel that needed content. Lots of content. She, on the other hand, unearthed stories. Real stories that took months to fact check before she allowed them to be broadcast. If they got this wrong, James could blame Ethan, an eccentric billionaire. She would be finished. ‘I need more time,’ Sally said. ‘Ethan is launching in ten days. With or without us.’ ‘You’d broadcast on the strength of what he just showed us?’ ‘As of midday tomorrow,’ he said. ‘That’s if we can take off to—’ He never finished his sentence. A loud crack from the rear of the Jeep veered it savagely left. James tried to counter by wrenching the steering hard right, but the small charge had done its job. The Jeep flipped, bleeding fuel from its shattered underbelly as it slithered off Route 41 and onto the lava below. The dead rock punctured the thin roof, ripping through plastic, metal and cables which sparked into life. Fumes met fire and a blinding explosion boiled into the sheeting rain, as long forgotten lava flows glowed red in approval.

I write what I love to read – big issue thrillers that are super well researched inside a complex plot full of twists and turns.

The result of the above is The Race Is On Series, an idea I had on a trip to Iceland. The first in the series is called LEAP, which tells the tale of a device which has the power to halt global warming. The ensuing race to control the power of this machine will continue throughout the sequel to LEAP which I’m well on my way to completing. It’s called Green Ray and will be published in May 2023. Just like LEAP, the 2nd book weaves fact with fiction and encompasses events such as the 2009 global financial meltdown, Al Qaeda, a new US President and a cornered CIA; another delightful concoction around which I have constructed another tall, but hopefully credible, tale. Watch this space! I live in Leeds, UK with the love of my life and our two daughters. It rains a lot in Leeds but that works out well for me – loads of time for research and of course writing!

BOOK TOUR & GIVEAWAY: Hidden in the Shadows by A.D. Vancise

Never trouble Trouble, ‘til Trouble troubles you,

Hidden in the Shadows

by A.D. Vancise

Genre: Thriller, Suspense, Mystery

“All I can ever think about is murdering her.” -C.B.

Twenty-three-year-old Evie Day never dreamt she’d be back in Woodsville Arkansas, a small town in the middle of nowhere, after having left five years earlier, but the death of her grandfather called for her return. After discovering a photo from 1933 of a mysterious woman standing next to a tiny wooden box, a strange vial of blood wrapped up in a handkerchief in the pocket of her grandfather’s overalls, and a key hidden in his desk drawer that belongs to a secret safety deposit box, Evie is unwittingly thrown into a world of evil where those closest to her are the ones to be the most feared and danger lurks around every corner.

Hidden in the Shadows by A.D. Vancise shines a light on the darkness and reveals the underlying players that have been hunting in plain sight.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

The survivors of satanic rituals and child trafficking inspired this book, along with a photo I found in my grandfather’s family photos of a mysterious woman standing beside a tiny box. My grandfather died with the real story of what happened. He was a police officer.

I knew I had to take this story down a dark path once I heard the victims’ stories and those who never believed them. The killer’s POV is based on true testimonials of survivors. These horrific acts happened and continue to happen to kids worldwide.

Having said that, I feel the importance of noting a trigger warning for intense graphic material such as child trafficking, sadism, occult rituals, sexual and physical abuse, violence, and murder. If reading this material evokes memories of or PTSD from abuse, please contact professionals or a safe person immediately. This novel is in no way meant to sensualize or exploit these serious events. It requires courage to read this story meant to bring awareness to these heinous acts and give a voice to the children who no longer have one. It’s to shed light on a darkness that has plagued this world for far too long. I am awed by all those who can receive this information and want to help the children. We all need to give them a voice. Thank you for being brave enough to read this story.

Sincerely,

A.D. Vancise

Searching for Rebellion: Two Indie Authors Form Edgy Publishing Company

Tony Nesca and Nicole I. Nesca have one question – where have all the fearless artists gone? Unable to find a mainstream publishing outfit that suited their taste for grittier writing, the Nescas formed their own – Screamin’ Skull Press.

For the Beat Generation, controversy was the norm, not the exception. Creators like Jack Kerouac, William S. Burroughs and Lucien Carr courted debate and made careers out of pushing the proverbial envelope with their poems, books, music and other creative expressions. Living on the fringes of society was considered to be more exciting and fulfilling than conforming to the mainstream.

Authors and married couple Tony and Nicole Nesca feel connected to that Generation through their own work, and their innate understanding of what it means to be artists whose work cannot be deemed ‘conventional’ by anyone’s standards.

Currently writing, editing and publishing their works through their self-publishing venture, Screamin’ Skull Press, Tony Nesca and Nicole Nesca have both cultivated individual styles but have the same mission.

“To be frank, we see too much pushed out into the world today that is bland and formulaic,” says Tony Nesca, whose unique, humorous and lyrical sixth novel, ‘Hobo’ is out now. “Every other book is a rip-off of another rip-off. The bookstores are packed with these endless vampire stories and dystopian fairy tales. Where is our Anais Nin? Our Hunter S. Thompson?” Our Virginia Woolf?

Screamin’ Skull Press exclusively publishes the worrk of the Nescas – raw, electric and with a free flowing mix of prose and poetry, their books are explorations of freedom, art, death, love, literary experimentation and living how one chooses.

“We knew that mainstream publishers wouldn’t have the courage to publish the kind of work that we want to create,” says Nicole Nesca. “It’s interesting – sometimes we wonder, could Henry Miller or Hemingway find success in today’s market?

It’s as if bravery is a dirty word in literature. Fearlessness, to me, is everything to a writer. Although we have our own styles, I think that’s one thing that Tony and I saw in each other when we met – that drive to find truth and peel back the layers in our own work.”

“I think we first fell in love with each other’s writing,” says Tony. “Which was a fitting beginning to our story.”

Tony Nesca and Nicole I. Nesca have published 19 distinct works through their Indie Press, and their journey toward a more rebellious future for literature continues.

Alan Lampe has been writing down tales and stories since the second grade. Over the years, his writing matured and was recognized by The National Library of Poetry. They published six of his poems in their anthologies in the late 1990s. Between workshops, critic groups, and conferences, he polished his prose in the following years. Wanting to leave no detail unchecked, he traveled to Louisiana to capture the essence of Cajun life.
