BOOK REVIEW: Chaos (The Library of the Profane) by J.B. Trepagnier #reverseharem #urbanfantasy

Add to your Goodreads

The Library of the Profane has everything your black heart desires. But we don’t just allow anyone to get a library card.

Need to summon a demon? Raise the dead? A clan of vampires bothering you? Do you like the really nasty werewolf erotica? The Library of the Profane has all of that, but not everyone can handle the contents (Some people can’t handle their werewolf erotica). I’ve been a librarian here for five years and when I say I killed to get this job, I’m not being facetious.

You can’t check out our books. Some of the books are sentient and don’t like it. We have rooms to perform the spells in or hell, we do have a copy machine (copies are extra). When a witch came in and said they needed to do a little necromancy, I didn’t question it. They wouldn’t have been given a library card if they were going to raise someone really bad. I helped with the necromancy because it’s just my job as a librarian.

Except it wasn’t a normal resurrection. It was the physical embodiment of Chaos and when he woke up, he saw me first and now he’s attached. Chaos personified is a horrible library guest and he won’t leave with the witch who raised him. He’s constantly getting into things he’s not supposed to and he’s really into the werewolf erotica.

It’s not like I can let him out because the Library of the Profane is meant to contain Chaos. The rest of the world isn’t. He’s awful about keeping his identity secret too. A warlock, a Hellhound, and a vampire know he’s here and they are bugging me to let Chaos have a little fun.

I just want a normal day of summoning demons, cursing people, and telling people to be quiet in my library. This is too much.

MY REVIEW:

5 stars

Gods, witches, familiars, hellhounds… this book has a little bit of everything. As a lover of paranormal romances, the description for this one had me intrigued. Throw in the fact it popped up under a search for reverse harem, and I knew I had to read it.

Let me start by saying I gave it five stars for originality and a great concept. There are editing issues, both content and line, but those could easily be cleaned up. It wasn’t distracting enough to detract from the story.

I loved the characters. All of them. Ripley is feisty, sexy, and seems to find trouble even when she’s not looking for it. She’s not your typical librarian, but seems perfect for running such an unusual establishment as the Library of the Profane. The god of Chaos is hilarious, and not as oblivious as he appears. Ripley’s familiar, Felix, is definitely an added bonus to the book. The way all the characters play off one another will have you smiling or laughing nearly the entire way through.

Despite the romance building between the characters, and the comedy thrown in, there’s also a bit of action and a mystery to solve. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I can’t wait for the next installment in the series.

BOOK REVIEW: Monsters (Prodigium Academy) by Katie May #ReverseHarem #Horror

Monsters (Prodigium Academy Book 1) by [Katie May]

Get it at Amazon

As the daughter of Dracula, you would think I’d be born the perfect monster.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

As far as monsters go, I’m a screw up—if I’m not tripping over my own feet, I’m accidentally murdering someone (it’s a real issue, guys).

Left with no choice, Dad decides to send me to Prodigium—otherwise known as Monster Academy—to train me on how to be a better monster.

When bodies turn up on campus, I’m the prime suspect (not that I can blame them. I’ll be pretty suspicious too if bodies drained of blood show up right after Dracula’s daughter arrives).

With the help of my mortal-nemesis Vin, Van Helsing’s son

Frankie, Frankenstein’s son

Mason, Medusa’s son

And Jack (sometimes Hux), Dr. Jekyll’s son

I might have a chance of uncovering the truth.

If I’m not murdered first.

The struggles of being a vampire, am I right?

This is a horror comedy reverse harem with some dark elements. After all, you can’t have a bunch of monsters without some darkness. This is book one of a series.

MY REVIEW

5 stars!

First, let me say that I don’t often read reverse harem books. I tend to prefer a guy who is so alpha that there’s only room for him and his woman in the relationship. But… that being said, the idea of Dracula’s daughter and the sons of all those other monsters was just too intriguing. And once I started reading, I couldn’t stop!

There’s humor, carnage, and Violet’s men are each so different, and yet similar in some ways. With a hint of mystery, danger around every corner, and love blossoming between Violet and her men, it kept me enterained from beginning to end. I flipped the pages, eager to find out what happened next. And when the book ended, I immediately went to look for book 2.

While there’s some sexiness in this story, and a lot of adult language and situations, the overall setting still gives the book a Young Adult feel (but it’s definitely not for younger readers). If you like fantasy, horror, mystery, humor, and romance, then you can’t go wrong with Monsters. Go grab your copy!

BOOK REVIEW: Wicked Blaze Correctional (The Wronged Series #1) by M. Sinclair #ReverseHarem #FantasyRomance

Wicked Blaze Correctional. The home to the most dangerous criminals of each realm. A private correctional institution that had to be placed on a separate realm because of the threat the inmates posed. Drake had sent me here, to ruin me. To destroy me and any memory of his egregious act that could incriminate him for being the homicidal maniac he was.

What he hadn’t counted on? Me. He hadn’t counted on my strength and my magic rising up to become the scariest damn thing in this place.

It helped that I had a human by my side that showed up to breakfast every morning covered in blood. I should probably ask Dimitri what that was about one of these days. Don’t forget Milo! An Ink Mage with the nifty ability to not only interpret dreams but to change them, as well as reality itself. Did I mention he was absolutely mental, maybe it was because of the insomnia? I don’t know what to tell them about one of the lead guards, Vaughn, who keeps claiming I am his ‘mate’ and promising to get me out. Or how to explain the odd feeling I have about the new inmate that just showed up, seeming a bit too sweet for this place.

There is something changing in the air though, something different than what has been going on the past six months, so what has been changing? Maybe it’s the magic eater that keeps floating by my cell every morning? I didn’t care what the change was as long as I got out. I had a witch to kill and I wasn’t going to be able to put Drake in the ground from here.

Welcome to Wicked Blaze Correctional – Book 1 of the Wronged Series. This trilogy will be a fast burn reverse harem filled with dark subject matters, a strong FMC, and insane men. This institution isn’t like any correctional facility you’ve read about before. It’s brutal, cutthroat, and there are no rules except that you can’t leave until your sentence is done… which is never. Follow Valentina and her men on a journey filled with revenge, steam, and strong characters that don’t fit the norm of society. A bit crazy? That is just normal.

This Fantasy medium/fast burn RH contains several dark themes that readers should be aware of: swearing (I know surprising, right?), gore, violence, assault, and sexual themes suitable for +18. Additionally, this book does have a mature light m/m themes that develop over time.

MY REVIEW

5 stars!

For fans of dark reverse harem romances, with a fantasy bent and a bit of humor, this book is a must-read!

A druid wrongly accused does what she must to survive. Valentina is a strong character with a lot of personality – and more than a bit of anger. She’s powerful, but isn’t until later in the book that she realizes just how much power she holds. I found myself not only rooting for her to have a happily-ever-after, but I also found myself eager to watch her punish those who stood against her. She’s the perfect blend of innocent and psycho.

Her “harem” of men are no less exceptional. Even the “human” is a serial killer who only takes out those who hurt his Valentina. With shifters, fae, and a magic eater who seems to be something more, you’ll find yourself falling for each of these heroes. They all bring a uniqueness to the story, and yet their personalities blend rather well together.

Action, intrigue, magical powers and so much more fill the pages of this book. And yes, there’s hot sex too. But be warned… there is a cliffhanger, and you’ll be so entrenched in this world, you’ll have no choice but to go download the next installment — because if you’re like me, you’ll have to know what happens next!

Two thumbs up. Five stars. And a 10 out of 10.

Amazing book! Couldn’t put it down.

Luther is the most beautiful of my captors. Still I hate him more than the others. I hate him so much that the darkness inside me comes alive.

When I started university and moved out of my foster parents’ home, I hoped everything would change. That the nightmares, the visions, the voices would stop, but they got worse.

Then three of the most dangerously stunning fae crashed into my life.

Intoxicating eyes.

Devilish lips.

Dangerous intentions.

They insist I belong with them in the Wandering Realm. A place where love is lost, where war is brewing between two realms, and where the once powerful royals are being hunted down and slaughtered.

I’m their savior they say, but there are no saviors amid monsters. These princes who are tasked to keep me safe are keeping secrets of their own. Secrets that will kill me.

So, how am I meant to rid the realm of evil when I feel the dark spreading through my veins?

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

I shake so hard, my hands curling into balls. “They could have killed you.”

“I told you to stay in the room,” he reprimands me.

“Right. And if I had obeyed your stupid command, you’d be dead. Then what?”

“You coming out here could have gotten you killed,” he roars, his cheeks flushing with anger. Fingers squeeze my arms tight as he holds me so close, so damn hard. “I want to spank your ass for pulling that shit out there.”

We stare each other down, and that burning fire in my chest explodes. All I see are those full lips, the look in his eyes drowning in need. “Let me go!” I yell.

Instead, he angles closer, and my body responds instantly. Our mouths clash and our kiss is primal and chaotic. Teeth and lips and hands everywhere. I rake through his hair, fisting it, wrenching him closer. I bite down on his lip, and sweet, metallic blood lingers on my tongue. My hands seize his collar, and I’m hauling him against me. I’ve been dreaming of kissing him since seeing him in the bar, and now this is actually happening.

I may hate him so much, but I want him even more.

Strong hands grasp my hips and he has me in his arms and off my feet so fast, it takes me off guard. I clasp my legs around his hips and he pins me to the side of the car, kissing me with the hunger of a wolf.

MY REVIEW:

This was my first time reading anything by Mila Young. I’ve always enjoyed fantasy romance. I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s spin on the fae and will most likely check out the next book. I’m now invested in finding out what happens to Guen and the three princes. I found the character and scenery descriptions to be well done, and the storyline itself is intriguing. The author truly has a gift when it comes to building a story. The one thing I truly disliked was the cliffhanger.

That being said … there were a few issues (for me). Disregarding the numerous editing errors, there were times Guen felt more like a high school teen than a college-aged woman, from her dialogue (inner and spoken) to her reaction to various events in the story. Her overall tone has the feel of a seventeen-year-old. I honestly think if the sexy scenes were tempered a bit, this book would have fit in amazingly well with a lot of the hot fantasy teen books that are flying off the shelves.

All in all, it was a good read.

*I received an ARC for an honest review*
