Tessa Milner never had much, but when she lost her mom, she lost everything. Her dad became a mean drunk and lost his job. What little the high school dropout makes bussing tables helps keep the lights on and food in the fridge, but she has little hope of ever escaping. When her dad takes things too far, and Tessa ends up in the hospital, she finds a hero in an unlikely place. A man she’s had a crush on since she was a kid, someone she’s always idolized. And now he’s here, by her side, and doesn’t seem ready to leave anytime soon.

Dr. Morgan Hilliard has felt drawn to Tessa ever since he first noticed the woman she was becoming, with curves that begged to be touched. He’s wanted to ask her out more times than he can count, but because of their age difference, he’s tried to keep his distance. The small town of Blossom Creek might be accepting of an interracial couple, but their nearly twenty year age gap is sure to set tongues wagging. Now things are different. Tessa needs him, whether she’ll admit it or not, and Morgan will do anything to keep her safe – even something as crazy as marrying her.

Kieran Murphy knew that Josie Cadman was important to him from the moment he saved her from a mad man. The only thing stopping him from claiming her was the fact she wasn’t his mate.

Josie convinced herself that what she felt for Kieran was nothing more than hero worship. Hearing that he’d found what he was looking for, and it wasn’t her, made it painfully clear that no matter what her feelings, they simply weren’t reciprocated.

When she bumps into Liam McMurtrie, literally, Josie starts to believe that perhaps there might be an alternative option. It’s not until the three of them cross paths in the heat of another battle on the streets of Chicago, that their true fate is revealed.

Can the three of them deal with another mafia mad man hell bent on destroying their lives and still find their way to a future together? Or will they lose their chance at redemption?

PROMO Redemption

EXCERPT

“Josie,” Violet said the name out of the blue, and immediately the image of the woman popped into his mind, her blonde pixie haircut giving her a look of sexy sass and, combined with her full lips and startling blue eyes, took his breath away.

“Aha!” Violet exclaimed excitedly, pointing a finger up at him accusingly. “This melancholy vibe you got going on has nothing to do with the challenges this city faces from Santiago’s douchebag replacement heading this way, and everything to do with Josie Cadman. I knew you had the hots for her, and I totally know she’s jonesing for you, so what’s the holdup? Let’s get to the mating, claiming, biting stage of your relationship so I can get me some female companionship around here. There is way too much—um, wait. What’s that look for?”

Kieran had winced when Violet had talked about mating and claiming Josie, and there was a very good damn reason for that. Josie was not his mate, at least not in the true shifter sense of the word. As soon as he had walked into that warehouse four months ago to face Santiago and help Violet rescue Josie, he had wanted Josie for his own. Everything within him screamed that she was theirs—hell, even his damn lion roared with the need to make her his. But the mating bond had not formed. Her scent, an alluring mix of honeysuckle and citrus, called to him for sure, but there was no connection within him that signaled that she was the one woman destined to be his. From what he had been told, there was no missing that when it happened. How could she be his if there was no bond?

“Fuck me sideways,” Violet said gently, stepping back with a look of pure horror on her face. “Forget everything I just said then about, you know the whole mating thing and the fact that Josie is jonesing for some lion loving, because that just might have been a breach of the damn sisterhood code. Nope, not ruining one of the only two female friendships I have, no siree! You just forget I said anything about it and—”

Kieran’s frustrated growl erupted, and Violet stopped rambling. The last thing he needed was for her to go running back to Josie and telling her that Kieran felt nothing for her. “Christ, woman, would you let a man get a word in? Josie is a beautiful, amazing, strong woman that any man would be proud to call his. I would have to be dead from the fucking waist down not to feel anything for her, and she would have to be completely blind and oblivious not to see my reaction to her every damn time she walks into a room.”

Violet frowned. “Then there is something else going on here, because I’m not stupid and have seen the way you both look at each other. Hell, there has been more than one occasion I’ve had to go find my mates for a little somethin’ somethin’ in the afternoon from the sexual tension the two of you give off, if you know what I mean. And if you don’t, I mean in the sexual kinda way.”

Kieran groaned, closing his eyes for a moment. “God damn it, Violet, there’s a visual I just did not need in my day.”

“Then what the hell is the problem?”

Kieran sighed, an ache forming in his chest. “She’s not my mate.” Violet’s eyes widened in surprise. “When a shifter finds the one the Fates have destined for them, they experience a physical reaction. Their scent draws them like nothing else, and their entire being shakes with the knowledge that they have found their mate. It is rare for a shifter who is an only child to find their mate, but I know I have one. Somewhere out there, she exists. I don’t know how I know that, but I do. But it’s not Josie. Despite wanting her with everything within me, I experienced nothing to indicate she is my mate. Without that, then I run the risk of connecting to her, coming to love her, and maybe, if I am the luckiest son of a bitch on the face of the planet, convincing her to fall in love with me. Then what happens if I meet the woman the fates have destined for me? What then, Violet? Because I am all outta answers. I will end up ripping Josie’s heart out, and probably my own at the same time. I can’t do that. Not to her. She’s lost too much.”

Josie had lost a lot during this damn war. Both her parents had been killed and her sister was missing, presumed a victim of one of Santiago’s human trafficking rings. Kieran had been telling himself since her rescue that he had been taking care of her. That his daily visits were a chance to simply ensure the safety and protection of a woman who had helped him and his pride rid the city of Santiago. But if he were honest with himself, it was because he couldn’t stand for a day to go by without having just a slice of her in his life.

Violet took a deep breath, and Kieran hated the flash of pity that flickered across her expression. “You’re a good man, Kieran Murphy.” Kieran cringed at the words no man ever wanted to hear from a beautiful woman. Sure, she was mated to two of his pride, but the premise remained true. “No, I mean that. My experience with males hasn’t been the best. Other than my Poppa and my mates, there haven’t exactly been a huge number of male role models in my life. But I’m gonna add you to that list, Alpha Kitty. It must be hard to not act on that attraction when you have to know that it is returned.”

Kieran nodded quietly. “You have no idea.”

SPOTLIGHT: Composing a Family by Sean Michael #LGBT #romancebooks

composingafamily510

The sixth book in the Mannies Incorporated series, Composing a Family was a blast to write. I had a good handle on Tenor right from the start, but I kind of learned about Daniel as Tenor did and it was a wonderful journey.

Composing a Family Blurb:

Tenor Abriole has just finished his stint as nanny for the Wilsons. He was with the family for twenty-one years, ever since he was eighteen. Now he’s looking for a new family, but finding that at thirty-nine, many people think he’s too old, and those who don’t think that’s a problem are balking at the fact that he’s a man, or that he’s gay, or both. He finally turns to Mannies Inc. for help finding a new position.

Daniel Thorpe is a well-known composer who lives and breathes music. He very much wants to be a father, so he goes the surrogate route, and winds up with triplets on the way. He turns to Mannies Inc. well before his girls are born, but so far has not been happy with any of the men who have applied, until Tenor shows up for an interview. Tenor’s experience being nanny to five children, as well as the fact that he stayed with a single family that long are both pluses in Daniel’s book.

Could it be that Tenor is the last note Daniel needs to compose his greatest work yet – his family?

Daniel woke up falling to the floor with a gasp, confused and lost. What the fuck?

Was he in a hotel?

Was he travelling?

The door burst open, a disheveled Tenor appearing, wearing nothing more than a pair of boxers riding low on his hips. “What? Daniel? Hey, are you okay, man?”

“I—” He blinked. “Where am I?”

“In my sitting room. You fell asleep and I didn’t have the heart to wake you up. Looks like you fell off the love seat. Are you okay?” Tenor bent, hands moving on him.

“Sorry. Sorry, I’m fine. I just… was confused.”

“And you fell. That’s never pleasant.” Tenor got an arm around him and helped him up.

He was propped up against Tenor. And that was a lot of skin. Warm skin.

“I just fell asleep? Just boom?”

“Yeah. I guess you really meant it when you said it was past your bedtime, eh?” Tenor gave him a wry grin.

And he was still leaning against the warm muscles. “I’m sorry. How embarrassing.”

Tenor chuckled. “Don’t be embarrassed—I’ve had much worse done to me.”

“I just… wow. I must trust you.” He winked, trying to keep it light.

“That’s good because I’m going to be taking care of your babies. And by extension, you.”

“Yes. And I guess I’ll be taking care of you.”

Delight filled Tenor’s face. “Nobody’s taken care of me for a very long time.”

“That only seems fair.” They were going to be family, right?

“Well, I like it.” Tenor glanced over at the clock on the cable box. “It looks like the perfect time for a midnight snack. You want cookies and hot cocoa?”

He blinked. Seriously? People did that? “Why not?”

“Good answer—I happen to be a cookies and hot cocoa expert.”

“I will have to learn all about it.”

“You definitely should—they’re a great conversation opener with kids.”

“Aren’t they supposed to be asleep at this time of night?”

“Yeah, but if they’re not, it’s either because of bad dreams or something is bothering them. And the hot milk helps get them sleepy again and feels safe and comforting and helps them talk about what’s bothering them.”

“Yeah. I can get that, I think.”

They headed downstairs into the kitchen, the lights on low.

Tenor moved efficiently, filling two mugs with milk, then pouring the liquid into a saucepan and putting the heat on low. Then he grabbed some cocoa and brown sugar and a little bit of water, putting it all together in a little saucepan and putting that on the heat, too. “You want to find some cookies? There’s a couple of the chocolate chip left, and I made oatmeal ones this morning.”

“With raisins?” He loved raisins.

“It’s not oatmeal cookies if there aren’t any raisins.” Tenor laughed softly and pointed to a cookie jar shaped like a giant chocolate chip cookie that he’d never seen before.

“That’s a cookie jar.” How cool.

“Yeah, and it’s a thick plastic that won’t break if it gets pulled down off the counter.”

“I like it.” It was a bright splash, something… new.

*please note this is an unedited excerpt*

Valentina Cupid tried to ease the tension in her neck. Her children, Max and Katy, were asleep in the backseat. It had only been a few days since Gage had walked out of their lives, or more like run. Valentina had come home to find his things packed and gone, and an eviction notice tacked to the door. She’d quietly packed their belongings, put the kids in the car, and just drove until her vision blurred. After traveling for three days, she was down to their last hundred dollars and knew they couldn’t run any further. Blossom Creek, Texas would have to do until she could find a job and earn some more money.

Her hand smoothed over her still flat stomach. At least she wasn’t showing yet. A new start in a new town was just what her little family needed, but she knew once people learned her kids all had different fathers, they’d sneer at her just like the last town had done. She had a thing for bad boys who knocked her up and took off, and never seemed to learn her lesson. If she ever dated again, she’d have to pick a nice, nerdy guy who sat at a desk every day. Tattoos and muscles were overrated.

“Momma, I’m hungry,” Max said from the backseat.

The box of peanut butter crackers lay empty on the passenger seat. She’d bought it yesterday in hopes of spreading their cash a little further, but her kids really needed a hot meal. A diner on the right caught her attention and she pulled into a space out front. Scrubbing her hands up and down her face a few times, she unbuckled her seatbelt and got the kids out of their car seats. They’d been travelling for three days, only stopping at truck stops and rest areas long enough for Valentina to close her eyes for an hour here and there.

She gripped their hands as they entered the diner and waited to be seated. It seemed almost as if every eye in the place turned their way. Valentina’s cheeks flushed and she tried to avoid their gazes. An older woman wearing an apron came over, flashing them a smile.

“You want a table or a booth?” the waitress asked.

Max tugged on her hand. “Can we have a booth, Momma?”

The waitress nodded. “I know just the spot.”

She grabbed a menu and three rolls of silverware before leading the way to a booth in the window. Max and Katy both needed booster seats, but once they were settled, Valentina slid into the other side. She was so damn tired the words on the menu ran together and turned in black fuzzy blotches, but she fought to focus and remain upright. Her kids needed her.

She read off the menu choices they could afford and let Max pick his meal. Katy hardly ever ate anything but mashed potatoes and mac ’n cheese. As much as Valentina wanted to order the biggest burger with the largest order of fries on the menu, she settled for a cup of soup and some crackers. After she placed their order, the waitress returned with some paper and crayons for the kids.

“Thought they might want something to do while you wait for your food,” the woman said. “I’m Barb. Just holler if you need anything.”

“Thank you,” Valentina said with a tired smile.

When their food was delivered, Barb set down a large salad with chunks of grilled chicken and a side of ranch. Valentina opened her mouth to protest that she hadn’t ordered it when the woman held up a hand.

“You need more than soup,” Barb said. “Won’t do your kids any good if you pass out from hunger.”

Valentina’s cheeks flushed.

“You sticking around town or passing through?” Barb asked.

“I thought we’d stay for a while.”

“Diner’s closing in an hour. Why don’t you wait until the customers are gone, and if you’d like, you can help me close up. I’ll pay you cash.”

Valentine’s face burned with embarrassment as she nodded in agreement. Was it noticeable that they were on their last leg? She hated accepting charity, but if Barb would let her work for the salad and a few extra dollars to get them by a little longer, she couldn’t say no. They ate their food and the kids colored a little more while they waited for the diner to empty. When the last customer had walked out, Barb locked the door and flipped the sign to Closed.

“You ever worked in a diner before?” Barb asked.

“Yes, ma’am.”

Barb snorted. “None of that ma’am nonsense. Just call me Barb. I’m going to let you refill the napkins and condiments at each table. Then you can sweep and mop the floor. I’ll be in the kitchen helping Hank prep for tomorrow. Come on. I’ll show you where everything is.”

It took almost two hours for Valentina to get everything done, and her kids had fallen asleep at the table when she was finished. Barb insisted on paying her twenty dollars in addition to the salad she’d already provided, and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Valentina pocketed the money and carried her kids to the car one at a time, fastening them back into their car seats. She had no idea where they’d go for the night, but fatigue pulled at her.

Valentine drove until she found a darkened parking lot by a large building marked Gleason Auto. It seemed to be closed for the night, and she hoped to blend in with the other cars in the lot waiting for repairs. She turned off her headlights and shut off the engine. She’d have to wake in an hour and run it again to warm the car back up, but she didn’t have enough gas to leave it running all night.

She reclined her seat a little and closed her eyes, after making sure the doors were all locked and the windows all the way up. Her body felt like lead weights were pulling her down and her eyes burned from exhaustion. She knew pushing herself so hard wasn’t good for the baby, but she had little choice right now. Barb hadn’t mentioned a permanent position tonight, which meant Valentina would have to spend some of her money on a local paper and see if any jobs were posted. It was that or walk up and down the main strip checking with every store along the way. Not that she had any idea what she’d do with her kids while she worked. She couldn’t afford daycare without a job, but she couldn’t work without someone to watch the kids.

Valentina let sleep pull her down, sleeping harder than she had in days.  A slight chill in the air woke her a while later. Looking into the backseat, her heart lurched when she saw how flushed Katy looked. Her daughter had kicked off her blanket at some point and shivered in her car seat. Max still dozed, but looked fine. Valentina got out of the car and opened the back door. Katy was burning with fever, but Max felt cool to the touch. Her heart ached as she realized that her heavy sleeping had likely gotten her child sick, since hadn’t been awake to turn the heat back on, all because she couldn’t afford a motel room.

Booted steps came toward her and she spun to face the person, her hand at her throat as her heart raced. A man, who didn’t look much older than her twenty-two years, had a scowl on his face as he approached. Despite the cold February air, his short sleeve shirt displayed the tattoos on his arms. The man drew nearer and brushed his long hair out of his face.

“This is private property,” he said, his deep voice sending shivers down her spine.

Not another bad boy, Valentina. Get a grip.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t realize we were trespassing.”

“We?” he asked as he came to a stop in front of her. The man peered around her shoulder and his eyes widened a little when he saw her kids in the backseat. “Holy shit. Did you sleep in your car last night?”

Valentina’s cheeks burned. “Yes.”

“Bring the kids inside and warm them up,” he said, turning to head toward Gleason Auto. “I have some hot chocolate they can drink.”

She bit her lip. “Is there a free clinic in town?”

He paused and turned to face her again. “A free clinic?”

“My daughter. I think she’s sick.”

The man came closer again, peering into the backseat. “Blossom Creek doesn’t have a free clinic. Do you not have insurance?”

“No, we don’t.”

“Old Doc Johnson owes me a favor. Bring your kids inside and I’ll have him stop by on his way to his office this morning. The three of you can get warm while you wait.”

“I don’t even know you. Why are you helping us?” Valentina asked.

“Let’s just say I have a soft spot for kids. Why isn’t your husband here helping you?”

“I’m not married,” she said softly.

“And their dad?”

“Max’s dad left two years ago. Katy’s dad took off right after I told him I was pregnant.”

“Two different dads?” he asked, his eyebrows lifted.

Valentina placed a hand on her stomach. “Three.”

He studied her a moment and seemed to come to some sort of decision. “You need help getting the kids inside?”

“You’re still going to help us?”

“Figure someone should. Sounds like you’re the type to attract assholes.”

#CoverReveal – Venom by @HarleyW_Writer #bikerromance #mcromance #romancebooks

DixieReapersBanner

A brand new series is coming this February from Changeling Press! Dixie Reapers MC will kick off February 2nd with Venom (available February 9th at Amazon, iTunes, Kobo, and B&N). I’ve always had a thing for men in leather, so it’s no surprise I decided to write an MC romance series. Growing up, my grandfather had an old Indian motorcycle and both my uncle and my dad had Harleys. I could barely walk the first time my dad put me on his bike. I can’t wait to delve further into the awesome men in the Dixie Reapers and I hope you’ll join me.

Now for a few warnings…I write hot contemporary romance, usually with young women and older men. Because this is an MC series, there may be some violence, but I’ll try not to make things too graphic. Don’t want to gross everyone out. My heroes tend to be possessive and all alpha male, and my heroines are spunky in their own way. I never end with a cliffhanger and I guarantee a happily-ever-after for each couple.

If you want to check out my previous series, Bad Boy Romance, you can find them on my site: harleywylde.com

Ridley –

I might live in a mansion in South Florida, but my daddy was a biker, and I was definitely daddy’s girl. When I found out my mom and stepdad had something horrible planned for me, I ran. Straight to the Dixie Reapers, the only place I’d ever thought of as home, but it wasn’t my daddy’s arms I ended up in. Venom is dark and seductive, the type of man who doesn’t take shit from anyone. Despite his hard exterior, being with him makes me feel safe, and his kisses make me ache for so much more. I’ve never been with a man before, but even as inexperienced as I am, I know that being with Venom will ruin me for anyone else, and I don’t care. I want him – all of him – and damn the consequences.

Venom –

I hadn’t risen to the rank of VP of the Dixie Reapers MC without getting my hands dirty. I’d been deep in blood and dirty money for over twenty years, could have any pussy I wanted whenever I wanted and how the fuck ever I wanted. But when an angel I hadn’t seen in fourteen years came back into my life, all it took was one look in her eyes and I was a goner. As a kid, Ridley had been this little blonde cherub that lit up the place. Now she’s older, has curves in all the right fucking places, and damn if I don’t want her. The fact she was the nineteen year old daughter of a patched member meant I needed to keep my hands to myself, and I might have, if she hadn’t begged me so sweetly. Now she’s mine and I’ll do anything to keep her safe, even if means starting a war.

Lucas has no intention of letting Olivia get away again – they just have to survive the dinosaurs!

Six months ago, Lucas met the woman of his dreams, but after a night of amazing sex he woke up to find himself alone. Sent to rescue the daughter of a billionaire from her own folly, he discovers her to be the same woman, and this time he intends to make sure she stays put.

When Olivia discovers a herd of live dinosaurs existing on a small island in the South Pacific, she’s ecstatic. This discovery could crown her career as a paleontologist and put to rest the rumors that her daddy bought her position for her! Of course, when her father sends someone to drag her home, she’s not willing to comply and the couple must find a way to deal with the sizzling attraction between them while running from a herd of angry prehistoric beasts.

EXCERPT

The voyage had been rougher than Lucas had expected. The fishing trawler he’d rented to get himself from the mainland over to the small island where the target was located had bucked and heaved on the choppy waters, at times threatening to turn itself upside down. Not an ideal ride, but it did the job. He was on the island. Now all he needed to do was locate his employer’s daughter and convince her to leave with him. Grabbing his packsack of supplies he set out to find her.

Good thing the island was so small. As it was, it was past noon before he caught sight of a battered old canvas tent on the east side of a grassy meadow at the foot of a small hill. He made his way down to the bottom of the hill, cursing the lack of any kind of trail to follow. The low scrub bush that blanketed the area made foot travel slow going. Once he made it to the edge of the flat meadow, he paused to scout out the lay of the land. He wasn’t sure of the best way to approach the woman. She had no idea who he was, and she just might be armed. She would be perfectly justified in defending herself against an unknown male who suddenly showed up unannounced. The last thing he wanted was to engage in a shootout with his employer’s daughter. .

Lucas pulled his field glasses out of his backpack and studied the base camp. Two facts immediately slammed into his disbelieving brain. Hard to tell which was more astounding. Firstly, those four-legged creatures stretching up to munch on the tops of the trees definitely did look like dinosaurs.

And secondly, Mr. Billionaire’s daughter was none other than the woman he’d spent one unbelievably fabulous night with almost half a year ago. The woman who’d seduced him, fucked him gloriously senseless and then disappeared before he managed to regain consciousness the following morning.

Hell, he’d started to think he’d dreamed the whole thing. No woman could be that gorgeously curvy, that amazingly good in bed, and then just leave without expecting anything at all from him. He hadn’t even taken her out for dinner. Or breakfast. Not that he was cynical or anything but women were expensive. They didn’t do anything without expecting some kind of payback, and they sure as hell didn’t do all the things she’d done for him and with him and to him without very high expectations.

So when she’d disappeared without a trace, he’d been speechless. Speechless and, if he were honest with himself, just a tiny bit bereft.

He’d wanted more. More of her. More of them together. Taking a deep breath, he strode across the field toward the woman who’d starred in all of his X-rated dreams for the past six months.

He could tell the exact moment she became aware of his presence. Her head came up like a deer who’d suddenly scented a predator. She turned in his direction, and her lips formed a surprised “o.”

Yeah. She remembered him all right. It was in her eyes, in the way the pink tip of her tongue darted out to wet her lips, in the way her nostrils flared as if breathing itself had become an issue.

Her lips curved upward in that slow, sexy smile he remembered so well, and it sent a bolt of heat straight to his groin. Instant hard-on. Yeah. That was her, all right. Olivia. New-age hippie. The first woman to ever love him all night and leave him wanting more the next morning.

He was close enough now to look right into her eyes, to see the warmth there, the genuine happiness at seeing him again. He didn’t get it. She looked thrilled to see him now, so why had she left that morning without so much as a fleeting message, or a goodbye kiss?

Then it didn’t matter. He reached her side and pulled her into his arms to devour her lips. They were every bit as sweet as he remembered, and just as blindingly hot.

She didn’t protest his rough handling. On the contrary, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. Opening her lips, she gave as good as she got, her tongue exploring every crevice of his mouth, every inch of his tongue.

He let out a low groan and let himself be carried away on a wave of pure, unadulterated lust. He’d missed her so much, wanted her for so long, that it didn’t really matter why she’d left that day, or why she’d never attempted to contact him again.

She was here now, her luscious body wrapped around his.

SPOTLIGHT: Protection Detail by Sean Michael @seanmichael09 #BDSM #romancebooks #LGBT

It took me two years to finally get Dustin and King’s story written for the Underground Series, but I finally had a chance to do it and I’m happy with how it came out. I hope the Protection Detail guys liked as much as the guys from Special Teams and Emergency Services.

Thank you to Jessica for hosting a post for Protection Detail!

Dom Dustin Lefevre works hard and plays harder. He attends the Underground Club whenever he can and is always very much in demand by the unattached subs. After one such evening, he runs into King Tamber, the Dom who taught him everything he knows. King and Dustin parted ways after several years of King teaching Dustin how to be the best Dom he can be.

Now, King has come back into Dustin’s life with a new proposal. He wants to recreate Dustin’s club scenes with Dustin in the submissive role. Dustin doesn’t understand why King would want to do scenes with him again, but King is very persuasive and Dustin finds that he can’t resist. Now all Dustin has to do is figure out how to continue without having his heart broken.

Meanwhile, King has regretted parting ways with Dustin every day. Seeing Dustin working the subs at the club has given him an idea of how he can connect with Dustin again. He knows he screwed up with Dustin when they last parted and he can only hope that through his new plan, he can woo Dustin and ensure they both get the happy ending they deserve.

Excerpt

“I don’t understand, King. What’s up?” They didn’t have that sort of… friendship… anymore.

“The new rule is that whatever you do in a scene at the club, I’ll do to you.”

“What?” He shook his head. “Stop playing around.”

“I’m not playing, Dusty. I think it would be good for you to go through what you put your subs through. It reminds you of how intense this is for them. Reminds you what each of the sensations is.”

“I’m a good Dom!” Was that what this was about? Had someone complained about him? If they had, how come Daniel or Chris hadn’t come to him?

Fuck.

Fuck.

He’d thought the Underground was a place he was wanted, welcomed. He played all over and no one had been weird; subs always wanted to play with him.

King reached out and took his hand. “Stop. I can see your mind going a million miles an hour. This isn’t because you’ve done anything wrong. Quite the contrary, you’re an amazing Dom. I bet if you asked the subs to line up in front of either you or me, you’d have the longer line. This is entirely between you and me.” King sat back as their waitress brought their drinks.

“Your burgers’ll be up soon.”

“Thanks.” King nodded to her, then sat forward again, resuming his explanation. “This is about you and me.”

“You and me?” There was no him and King. Hadn’t ever been. Not really. “What are you up to? I know the subs tonight would want you.” He didn’t understand.

“I’m not doing it because I think I’m unlovable or anything like that, Dusty. I believe it would be an interesting experiment. Fascinating, even. I’m a Dom’s Dom after all.”

“I’m not… That’s not for me, man.” Christ, that was still creepy, how King always knew what he was thinking. He’d never figured that out.

One of King’s eyebrows went up. “Liar.” That was all he said. That one word and one eyebrow, the look in King’s eyes.

“King…” This was totally not what he had expected out of his day, out of this scene.

“Are you telling me that the idea doesn’t have any appeal whatsoever?” King sounded like he didn’t think that could possibly be true.

“I don’t bottom anymore, King. Ever.”

“Of course not—you’re a Dom. You don’t bottom for subs. I’m not a sub. But if you’re honest with yourself, you’ll admit you want to abide by my new rule.”

The coffee and Coke were on the table, and he hid in the steam, in the familiar actions of adding a bit of cream to his coffee. He wasn’t used to this anymore—this uncertainty, this confusion.

King lounged there, watching him, not letting him escape that piercing gaze.

“So what brought this up?” he finally asked.

“Honestly? I miss you. I miss what we had.”

“But I’m not a Dom-in-training anymore. You said yourself that we were getting too intense.” Dustin hadn’t been the one to decide he had learned all he could from King.

“We were getting extremely intense. But I was wrong to think that was a bad thing. I can keep you sharp, keep you on your toes. I can remind you that every now and then you need to fly too.”

“This was not a discussion I’d expected to have, my friend. Not ever.” He knew King, and the man was not the kind of guy to change his mind about things.

“It’s not one I’d expected to have, either. But like I said, I miss you. I miss our intensity. I want to do this. I want to watch you do a scene with a sub, and then I want to do it with you.”

“So what, once a month we have a scene?” Because King didn’t know about the Friday night club. Or the Saturday night club. “I don’t know, man. I’m not sure I’m up for bottoming.” Besides, he didn’t have sex with his subs. He wanted to share orgasms with King, not scenes.

“Whenever you do a scene, you come see me and tell me about it. We get our rocks off over it, then the next night, I do you in the same scene. It’s win-win.”

“No way. You see me do a scene, then we can talk about it,” he countered.

“I see you do a scene, we talk about it, we get off, I do you in the same scene.” It looked like King wasn’t budging on doing the scene with him in the sub role.

“If I safeword, we’re done, and no matter what, we’re still friends afterward.” He’d just safeword and let King get over this nonsense. He didn’t want to lose a chance to… “You know what, no. No, this is a dumb idea.”

“The safeword is sacrosanct, of course I’d stop, and we’d still be friends. But it isn’t a dumb idea. Not at all. It’s a way for us to play, Dusty. Don’t you want to play with me?” King asked.

“Yeah. I’ve missed you, man.” But King knew that.

“Then let’s play. Let’s make the new rule. Let’s get intense,” King said.

“I still think this is a dangerous idea.”

“I know it’s a dangerous idea. That’s a part of the appeal.” King’s voice had gone a little rough, like talking about this was turning him on.

“So how many other men have you tried this pitch on?” He wasn’t sure what the hell King’s endgame was, but he wanted to know.

King’s eyebrows drew down, that slight roughness turning into something deeper. “Just you.”

“Don’t get all growly on me, man. You show up after telling me we had to take the ‘with benefits’ off our description and the first thing you want is to add it back on.”

“Have you never made a mistake, Dusty?” King asked.

He snorted. “Shit, man. I am the king of learning from my mistakes.”

“Then let me learn from mine. Let’s do this.”

“If you see me in a scene, we talk, we get off. Then, if we agree, we re-enact.” After all, he wanted to get off with King. They’d always been good together.

King shook his head. “No. I want the scene guaranteed.”

Christ, that made him squirmy. Dustin gave King a long look. “You swear no one put you up to this?”

“Dusty. I am not the type of man who lets anyone ‘put me up’ to anything. You know that. This is me. All me.”

He searched those grey eyes, so dark, so sure. “You are the most crazy-making man alive.”

King grinned. “I might have heard that a time or two. From you.”

“It’s still true.”

Their food arrived, two plates with big juicy burgers and large sides of fries. “You let me know if you need anything else,” the waitress told them.

“We will.” King nodded, then put a hand on Dustin’s when he went to grab a fry. “Let’s settle this before we eat.”

“I want it on record that I think this is going to be weird.” He was a Top. Period. He wasn’t a switch. He didn’t want a Dom.

“I have no problem with you thinking it’s weird. As long as you agree to the rule, I’m good with it.”

“You see the scene, we talk, we get off, we re-enact. This once.”

King shook his head. “No. Not once. Every time.”

Dustin’s lips opened, closed, a thousand thoughts running through his head.

King leaned forward. “Give me a year. Twelve months and then we can revisit.”

“A year?” What? King was home for a month? Maybe two? And King only knew about the monthly Underground meetings, not the others. So he’d make sure any scenes there were easy, and he’d get a chance to get off with his fantasy man.

“That’s right—twelve months.” King still had hold of his hand, the heat searing, burning into his skin.

“This is a mistake.” He was hard as a rock.

“If you really believed that, you’d have given me a flat-out no when we first started this conversation.”

“Blame it on the shock. One year. Can we just eat now?”

“We totally can.” King sat back and grabbed a fry, munching away.
